All Kinds of Potential: 1969 Dodge A108

Looking like it’s shivering under a coating of Maine snow, this 1969 Dodge A108 van is in need of a new forever home after leaving the clutches of the original owner recently. The body is rough and the motor and transmission are gone, but the seller thinks it has “…all kinds of potential” underneath that rough exterior. Find it here on craigslist for $800.

Eek – that body has the signs of one that’s been kept together on the cheap, which can be excused if it’s just a used-up work truck. The trouble is, these days buyers looking for an A108 tend to want a driver-quality van to begin with, especially since they’re more commonly used as camping rigs than working girls. This example will require the next owner to undo some of the “quicky” rust repair that’s been done.

The interior presents a more optimistic scene, as the dash appears to be uncracked and most of the switchgear and hardware still in place. The automatic transmission is a bummer, but then again, shifting a manual on the column isn’t any big thrill, since these rigs move slowly regardless of the transmission. Of course, you’ll have to source a new assembly along with deciding which motor to install, as both are missing at present.

A few months ago, I wrote up a post as a Barn Finds Exclusive about an A108 that was a former RCA TV repair van, along with several other Econolines and A108 vans for sale. Check out the post here on Barn Finds as we’ve still got those vans and they’re all looking for new homes – and it’s far more pleasant visit Georgia this time of year than Maine.

    Too bad its a window van! Had a 69 w 225 /3 sp.
. Went like a bat outta hell! Burn rubber all day long.the best part of these is that the body extension is behind the front doors; not overhanging the rear wheels .
I think this ones potential will be to be a dishwasher or whatever scrap is turned into

I say install a hot 340, a matching trans of choice and enjoy cruise nights and weekend romps at your local strip.

Excellent! Years ago we ran a Dodge van 360. It went 12.85 @ 105 at Englishtown and Atco.
MANY, many years ago I new a guy who bought an early 1970s Dodge van from New York Telephone Company and he installed a 340. That was fun to race at Etown as well. Love your pictures by the way!

Put a big VW badge on the front and flip it to a hipster as a rare ’60’s prototype between Chrysler and VW ala Routan.

Could have wiped off the snow for a better picture. Oh, never mind, it’s a Craig’s List ad.

Sadly, I’ve just been reminded that I’m old enough to remember TV repairmen. Now get off my lawn!

I had a “68” with the slant six and a 3 on the tree. That thing was pretty nimble for a van, because of the manual trans. I had a blast with that thing..As usual , I should have kept that vehicle
