Aventurine Green: 1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet

When it comes to Porsches, a few things hold true: find one with a manual, and if you can, spec one in the best color possible. The color detail is not nearly as important as the transmission, but it can certainly help supercharge the sale price if the model and color scheme are rare enough. In the case of a Porsche 968 cabriolet, this is a model that isn’t the most loved in the lineup, but there’s no denying that options are running out for affordable P-cars that will hold their value into the future. The 968 with a stick is one of the last refuges left for a Porsche under $50,000 with three pedals, and this example in the desirable color of Aventurine Green listed here on eBay could be a smart buy.

The 968 is the final evolution of the Porsche 944, a car that has been on and off the list of collectors for years. It can’t seem to find sustained desirability among the Porsche faithful except for outside the diehard contingent that loves front-engined, water-cooled models. It seems to be the same condition with the 928, where there are some Porsche enthusiasts who have owned multiple examples and others who wouldn’t consider owning one. The 968 really is a 944 with improved looks, depending on which era you prefer, as the front end treatment brings a long-tenured model solidly into the 1990s. The car shown here has just 41,772 miles on the clock.

This is an outstanding color combination, and one that is far more appealing than the typical red, white, and black we see most 944s and 968s wearing. The dove gray interior is also a nice change of pace than the usual black, and pairs nicely with the rare exterior color. Aventurine Green is still offered by Porsche today, and it’s a favorite among collectors. I could see this 968 joining a garage with a 993-chassis 911 in the same color, although the convertible top might scare the purists away; however, with this being a proper three-pedal model, it might win over some hearts and minds. The interior is in spectacular nick, but the 968s tend to hold up well over time even when not properly looked after.

Speaking of maintenance, the car has had most of its must-do services done, but it’s important to remember that even if a mileage threshold for routine maintenance hasn’t been eclipsed, a car still may need the work done again simply due to the passage of time. The seller notes that the must-do timing belt job was done at 30,000 miles along with what sounds like a full top-end servicing; however, it’s essential to see what year that work was done, as the job could need doing again. Other work includes replacement of the water pump, thermostat, and spark plugs. This 968 is listed for $26,890, which does seem like a fair ask for the mileage and rare color scheme.
