Bare Bones Hot Rod! 1935 Ford 5-Window

There are several directions a new owner could take the completion of this 1935 Ford hot rod. If it was mine, I’d drive it as-is and enjoy the heck out of it. Others may want to re-install the side glass, complete the interior and drive it as a “rat rod.” Some may even strip it, do all the body and bright work, paint it, and enjoy it as a show car. No matter what you envision, the car can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $19,500 and a buy-it-now price of $25,000. Located in Hollister, California, there are a couple of videos in the ad showing the car running, which is helpful. Check out this awesome car and thanks to Larry D. for the tip!

As you can see, there is no upholstery in the interior with the exception of blanket seat covers. The dash features Stewart Warner gauges and a Hudson steering wheel. The doors are latched by hardware store latches (which increases the rebel factor). The seller says the entire car has been re-wired with upgraded electrical and lighting systems.

The engine is a 350 cubic inch small block Chevy with an aftermarket cam. It is topped by a 4bbl carburetor and a Gapped intake manifold. The transmission is a turbo 350 that sends power to a 10-bolt rear.

Under the car may be the best part of this build. The chassis features a Camaro front sub-frame with IFS and manual rack-and-pinion steering. The front has disc brakes with drums in the rear. Also, the rear section of the frame has been Z’d to lower it.

The seller lists a few things that need to be addressed by the new owner. They include mostly sheet metal work and a few small odds and ends. Overall, this looks like a really fun car to enjoy. Would you drive it as-is, do some interior work, or do a full show-car refresh? Let us know.

For what this has, $25K is way too much. A gutted interior, no door glass, etc. No thanks.

and for those of us, hopefully most, that find a chevy under it offensive, a shame, a sham, a waist, etc.
Its a 35 Ford, metal body

      A 302 or 351, a C4 or T5 and a mustang clip..

Then maybe worth more, but 25k ??

I’m with you, I hate to see all these nice old Fords ruined with cheebie engines in them. If you like cheebs, buy a 35 cheby and and put a 454 in it. But I know what they all say, 350s are all over the junk yards and they’re cheap. I guess I get it.

The world just lost a true car enthusiast, hot rods in particular.

Too dear and too low. Isnae practical. Seconded regarding Jeff Beck, but more Yardbirds than hot rods.

Derek, I chose to not state the obvious. Clearly, he was the real deal. His 1968 album “Truth” blew me away when it came out. He reinvented “Shapes of Things” in a way I couldn’t have imagined.

Let’s not forget “Blow By Blow,” which turned us “younger” folks onto Mr. Beck. May he rest in peace.

When the paint and interior are finished you’ve got the perfect, driveable cruiser. Yes, bit too high asking price for what’s still not there. As for perfect, just how do you top what Jeff Beck accomplished with his over the top talent. Glad we’ve got all the cds and dvds of his work.

I still have Yardbirds 8 tracks (and a working 8 track player).

It is a good start and the work that has been done looks good. However, I feel like others it is too much money , for the work that it needs. Even if you just want to make it a more comfortable ride.

Hopefully, that small block slug can be removed, and a proper Ford engine installed.

I bought a similar car last spring but way farther along buildwise for $10,500 CDN. This coupe needs too much work for the ask I’d say this is an $8,000 car.

First of all who in there right mind would put a piece of trash Chevy motor or hack up one just to put Chevy part’s on it and ask that ridicules price on it Ford is supposed to stay Ford and piece of trash Chevy a Chevy. I wouldn’t pay 50 cents for it being stripped of its true glory

I would like to know how it steers since the rack and pinion is not level. I had one once that I had cocked just a little so that the steering column missed the motor mount. Once I notched the motor mount to take out the offset it was like installing power steering. It had very little offset, but what a difference.

That isn’t a Camaro sub-frame, looks Mustang II to me. The $19,000 bid is too high IMHO, let alone the buy it now price.

Fred, Its probably a Mustang II design, but it is a after market product. The cross member is after market and the A arms are tubular.

Thanks Dennis, I knew that, almost all MIIs are after market products.
I used the stock MII in my ’40 Ford. It required a large notch in the frame.
The lower A arm should be parallel to the ground. It also looks like there isn’t enough clearance between the steering and the frame.

NO,NO NO, smll block Ford is almost as bad as a SBC. I would go with a Y block 292 or 312, four speed, big Ford truck exhaust manifolds and tri power. These engine will easily make 300 plus horsepower and you just do not see them in the Hot Rod community. True Old Skool.

    .. right on !,
and that would be where a proper hot rod gets more respect and a higher price tag.
