Bargain Priced Project: 1955 Dodge Royal Lancer

Have we all been there? We buy a project car all loaded up with good intentions and visions of the finished product. Then we get it home, life gets in the way, and we find that years down the track, nothing has happened. That’s what has happened to the owner of this 1955 Dodge, so he has decided that it’s time that the car moved on to a new owner. You will find it listed for sale here on eBay. It is located in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, and it comes with a clear title. The owner has set an opening bid of $2,500 for the Dodge, although there is also a BIN option of $3,500.

The owner purchased this Dodge off the son of the original owner two years ago but hasn’t gotten around to starting the project. He states that the car will require a full restoration. It appears that the bottom of the front fender on the driver’s side has been cut away, so I assume that there were some rust issues there. It’s hard to tell, but it looks like there might be some rust in the front wheel well as well. The passenger side fender has Bondo in the same spot, so that will need checking. While it may appear that some of the external trim items are missing, apparently they are all in the car, along with some additional trim and body components.

There are no shots of the interior of the car, but given the fact that the owner states that the car requires a full restoration, I think that we can probably expect that this extends to the interior. Looking further around the outside of the car, it appears that some of the items such as the bumpers will require a trip to the chrome plater, while it also looks like new weather seals are going to be the order of the day. One real positive is the fact that all of the glass is present and in good condition.

The car ran when the owner purchased it two years ago, but apparently, it doesn’t now. However, it does turn over. This is the 270ci Super Red Ram Hemi, which produced 183hp. It is backed by the 2-speed PowerFlite transmission. Hopefully, especially given the fact that the engine turns over, it won’t be hard to get it back up and running. The car is also fitted with power brakes, and the owner states that there is a rebuilt carburetor in the trunk.

The owner states that this 1955 Dodge is a solid car that requires a full restoration. Once this has been completed it has the potential to be a nice car. There’s certainly some work to be done, but the sale price doesn’t represent a huge capital outlay. To be honest, I think that if you bought it and found that it was beyond help, you could probably make your money back by parting it out.

These are gorgeous cars and this one looks to be in decent shape, though I’d love to see the interior. Good price if it’s all there.

I know the “stalled project sitting in a Harbor Freight portable garage” syndrome all too well! Be aware when looking at a project that’s been stored that way, it keeps the rain off but things can still get pretty damp and dirty in there.

Hmmm, the 2 speed Powerflite. Just RNDL, no Park, so you need a working parking brake for sure. Pushbutton or wand coming out of dash?
