In a barn near Robertsville, Missouri lies this 1968 Plymouth Belvedere. It has been in dry storage for many years and is now for sale here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $12,500. The seller claims it is straight and rust-free with an “excellent body.” The roof and trunk are said to be perfect and it requires “no rebuilding.” Unfortunately, there are only two photos in the ad, so it is difficult to tell what the condition is. We don’t even know if it has been pulled from its resting spot. What do you think about this one? Would you buy it off a couple of photos? Take a look.
This isn’t the same car, but here’s what it might look like if it was pulled out of the barn and cleaned up. All of the Plymouth B-bodies (GTX, Satellite, Road Runner, and Belvedere) for 1968 were virtually the same car, they just had different options. The standard Belvedere had a slant-six engine, so if this car isn’t anything special, it would make a cool GTX or Road Runner clone. How about a big Hemi or 440?
In this photo, you can see the car has blade-type wheels which were popular in the 1990s, so this car may have only sat for 20 years or less. I really hope the seller can provide more photos than what’s in the ad. But on the other hand, maybe they aren’t too eager to sell? What do you think?
Here’s another goofball trying to sell a dusty old car with two lousy photos and asking top buck. Sweet Mother of God when WILL it end?
You are probably right, Rex, or its another guy trying to appease his wife with a half-hearted attempt to “sell”. Such a cool body style, my favorite mid-size, and the sky is the limit for possibilities here.
And in those two photos we see the rear bumper is missing the funk lock was popped out and the back window appears that it might have rust around the edges..these are good looking Mopars IMO even if they’re not GTX’s but I think Mr. BZ may be onto something when he talks about it being listed to perhaps appease the wife. No mention of the mechanicals, etc. tells me this seller doesn’t REALLY want to sell it!
Only when the bubble bursts Rex, which it will do eventually.
If seller won’t rinse off the dust, WHAT IS HE HIDING???
A Mopar B body for $12.5k? You don’t see that every day.
I would find a 360, build a 410 stroker (retain orig K member). Spend $5k for an aftermarket 4sp. and run 3.50 gears in a Dodge 8 3/4. Steal the seats out of that cop car in Oregon and restore the dash as much as possible.
During the build I’d decide on wheels and paint.
I would love to have this one. For me, a Belvedere that has not been “cloned” into something else is a real treat.
Thank you !!! I’m so sick of clones ..
If I always wanted a GTX I would have no qualms about turning this into one. No it wouldn’t be genuine and I would not pass it off as one, but it’s entirely possible to make this into exactly the same car as a GTX and I’d do it. There’s nothing magical about a Belvedere on its own, but a Belvedere -tagged car that’s otherwise a GTX, yeah.
Forget the patina look
I want to find a low psi spray that I can use to seal in all the dirt ,dust, bird/rodent droppings and crud.
It seems to be the current trend and one that many people think is a plus when selling
Love it, Bmac!! The next logical step is poop-tina!
Bmac, you may be on to something. I’ve painted parts before which I didn’t get clean and ended up with dust in the paint, your idea would kind of be the opposite.
It’s been for sale for a while…..anyone that saw it in person must have walked away……
OK, so this was stored in a DRY Storage, and UN-molested?? No Trunk Lock, No rear Bumper and FILTHY because it is under a Lean to? Whatever. Probably worth a few Grand in this shape. Two useless photos other than to show how nasty this poor car is.
