Barn Spider: 1982 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

SOLD!

Our friend, incredible car collector, and all-around great guy, Don Lacer, is selling a few more vehicles from his collection in Junction City, Kansas. One that’s on his list is this beautiful 1982 Alfa Romeo Spider which he purchased from an estate. It had been parked in the previous owner’s barn for about 30 years. It has just been detailed for the sale and he says that it’s ready to go. This sure would be a fun summer cruiser. As he puts it, this is one nice survivor and it sure looks it. Don has asked us to help with questions and negotiations, so if you have any questions please message us or leave them in the comments and we will get you an answer!

You can see what this Alfa looked like after being stored for three decades inside. You may remember Mr. Lacer due to his ownership of the incredible Manta Ray concept car and dozens of others that he and his father had collected over the decades. I was lucky enough to visit with Mr. Lacer and see the collection in person back in February of 2017 and we did a couple of stories about the collection here, and here.

The Alfa Romeo Spider was made from 1966 to 1993 for the 1966 through 1994 model years. This is the Veloce model which was the mid-trim-level for this era as opposed to the famously named Graduate base model and the top-trim Quadrifoglio. The car cleaned up very well compared to the storage dust photos.

The rear bumper and door panels were removed at some point in the car’s life, but Don just had them reinstalled and it really cleaned the look of the car up. The Veloce came with leather seats, power mirrors, power locks, air-conditioning, and the aluminum wheels that you see on this car. There appears to be some wear inside on a couple of areas but this car only has 54k miles on it so it is in very nice shape overall. Photos of the trunk area reveal an original spare, jack, solid floors, and the original trunk liner.

Spider values have been climbing steadily over the past few years, likely driven by the fun-to-drive factor and Alfa GTV prices. They really are a blast to drive! While they won’t give you the exact same experience as a GTV, you get the same great twin-cam engine and uniquely Italian driving experience. Don has priced this one at $15,100 or best offer, which seems very fair given the mileage and condition.

The only engine option in ’82 was Alfa Romeo’s 2.0L four-cylinder with 115 horsepower. The engine bay looks nice and tidy, without any signs of electrical or mechanical issues. Don states that the car runs very well and is a joy to drive. He’s just had it fully detailed and checked over, so this one is ready to hit the road. All it needs now is a new owner that will enjoy it! If that person is you, please contact us via the form below.

Scotty’s got it right. Was service manager for the local Porsche, Alfa Romeo dealer in “84 and got to road test a bunch of these. Fun and easy to drive and we didn’t have a lot of problems with them we couldn’t solve quickly.

No Quadrifoglio in 1982. That did not start until the Series 3 in 1983. 1982 is a unique year. Series 2 body with Bosch fuel injection (first year for Bosch fuel injection).
