Barn-Stored 49 Years: 1964 Buick Electra

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Electra was Buick’s top-of-the-line full-size automobile in the 1950s and throughout the 1980s. It’s also referred to as the Electra 225 as a nod to the car’s typical length (in inches). This second-generation example is from 1964, and it went into the barn when it broke down at 11 years of age. It stayed there until recently when it was pulled out after its owner passed away. Needing an undefined amount of work, this Buick is available in Buxton, Maine, and here on Facebook Marketplace for $2,500. This tip comes to us courtesy of Bruce M!

During its run, the Electra was on a common footing with its brethren at General Motors, the Pontiac Bonneville, and the Oldsmobile 98. Meaning it was one of your choices in luxury cars if the Cadillac deVille was a little out of your league. After a major restyle in 1963, the 1964 models were somewhat similar and featured a 401 cubic inch V8 as the only powerplant in the Electra. Of the 511,000 cars that Buick built in 1964, 13% or 69,000 cars carried Electra badging.

The seller doesn’t know a lot about this car. For example, it became inoperative in 1975, but we don’t know why. Or what it will need mechanically to be viable again. The white over green paint has run its course and what issues have arisen because of rust and corrosion? No interior photos are provided either, so how did the passenger compartment fare while the Buick was in the barn (hopefully no critters got inside the vehicle)? There are a lot of unknowns here, so a personal inspection is recommended before committing to buy.

Trash aside, the dash picture shown here looks OK. I’m glad we don’t have the critter problem here.
