As far as I can tell, it is impossible to own a Jeep Wrangler and not be happy with it. Yes, I know – there must be some Wrangler owners who are cursing John North Willys, American Bantam, and maybe even Henry Ford as we speak; I’m just saying that I’ve never met them. My neighbor’s had a 2014 since new: He loves it. A friend of mine recently dumped his leased Silverado to buy a 2006 Wrangler with almost 200,000 miles. It looks great, and, yep, he loves it. Imagine how happy a 38,000-mile rust-free “last-of-the-TJs” would make you. Is it yellow, like the ducks those happy Jeep people swap with each other? Yes, yes, it is. This beautiful Wrangler is located in Provo, Utah, and is now available as a Barn Finds Auction.
The Wrangler is perhaps the ultimate off-road vehicle, but this one is so clean underneath that it would almost be a shame to take a turn down that two-track forest road. It would also be a shame not to. It has new tires, upgraded suspension and brakes, a fresh alignment, and a mild lift, so it will handle some rugged going. The owner has performed meticulous maintenance on it as well, including a new water pump and thermostat, valve cover gasket, transmission flush, spark plugs, and more.
Under the hood is the classic 4.0-liter inline six in its final year of production. With 190 horsepower and 235 lb.-ft. of torque, it had exactly the low-end urge off-roaders grew to love, and many were disappointed when a V6 replaced it for 2007. This example has a four-speed automatic, so driving to the trails will be a relaxed affair. The engine compartment looks like there should be a Jeep showroom around it, circa 2006.
The seller has spent a lot of money improving his Jeep and keeping it immaculate inside and out. It has cruise control and air conditioning, so it won’t beat you up like that rusty old CJ-7 my cousin owned back in high school.
In talking with my friend who bought the 2006 Wrangler, I came to realize how well Jeeps hold their value, especially when they’ve been owned by people who loved them. This is clearly one of those cars; it will come with a California car cover, but I personally hope you have a garage so you can keep it as clean as it is now. If not, I hope that dirt will come from some far-off trail somewhere, where you and your yellow Jeep will follow that never-ending horizon, a smile on your face, a duck on the dashboard.

How good can they get? Bet Howard’s awake on this one. Nice.
I never understood the duck thing, and guessing Howard does not have one !
Hey Mike, my Bronco got “bucked” one time. It was a brown rubber duck with a horse mane and tail.
I’ve seen Jeeps with dashboards covered in ducks.
Happy Thanksgiving Dennis ! Happy to say I have never been tagged. I did not know they did it with Broncos also. Where did they put it ? If I found a turkey or a ham on my Trailhawk I would keep that. Take care Buddy !
I’m not sure. My wife was driving it at the time.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Mike! Hope its not too cold. A cold spell here in GA is 2 days in a row when it hits 30 – LOL!
2 thumbs 👍 up and it worked 👍
I know, just because I changed the Avatar pic, doesn’t mean I’m any less loyal. I can say with all honesty, the Jeep is one of a very few vehicles I actually loved. My MGB, my Peterbilt(s) and my Jeep. I’m clearly not alone, and like a Subie, you’ll be hard pressed to find a low mileage Jeep. To be honest, I never participated in goofy fads, and never heard of the “duck” thing, I think it’s silly. Apparently, a woman in 2020 from Canada, hey, bought a bunch of yellow rubber ducks and began placing them on other Jeeps as a goodwill gesture. While not my cup of tea, it did become incredibly popular, and justifies the Jeep owner thing. If I have to explain, you wouldn’t get it. There are no shortage of Jeeps, especially west of the big river, and choosing one can be tough. I can say, ( and so does the seller) this is a nice one.You shan’t be disappointed, we ( Jeep owners) all but guarantee that!
I’m a member of the owners/drivers group that acknowledges each other out of sympathy. From when the small link between the mechanical and electrical portions of the ignition switch broke and I had to drive around with a screwdriver until the light switch crapped out, justifying the purchase of a boneyard steering column. (TJ)
Right now it’s resting with the other Wranglers because it took a glancing rear hit that bent the rear axel and housing, unique to its year of manufacture. At least it’s coil sprung rear and not waiting rear frame horn repair like the other orphans whose rear shackles are waiting final digestion by the tin worms.
It is fun when it runs, though.
I own ,by US standards,an unusual Wrangler Sport down at my beach home in the British Virgin Islands. Its a right hand drive, five speed, Japanese export model which is perfect as we drive on the left.It has lot of small , different features and ..yes… a lady left a yellow duck on it while it was parked at a beach bar.Its proudly on the dashboard..
What a looker. My experience would be to have a soft top and 6-speed, but that’s like complaining about getting an extra dessert. The last one I drove was a 2004 and a ringer for this one. Replaced it with 8a Caravan that my elderly parents could travel in. Alas they’re gone and so is the jeep. Maybe one day. Just not today.
….tempted to place a bid on this one to replace my own 100K miles 2004, I can live with the automatic but not w/o a soft top….so does anyone know whether it could be fitted with a soft top?
Lots of places to get soft top and hardware. Google Jeep soft top and start shopping.
As a former Wrangler owner that also had a yellow one incredibly similar to this, yes a soft top can be put on in place of the hard top. I toi felt I needed a soft top. Honestly it depends on how much highway driving you do as to whether I’d recommend it. A soft top is just sooo Jeep but I had a 40 miles and most of it was highway at highway speeds. Truthfully after awhile I regretted that decision. A hard top doesn’t have the same cool factor but it can be a better choice depending on distance driven on a regular basis and also if you live someplace that gets particularly hot in summer or cold in winter. There’s a Pros and Cons comment from a Wrangler owner.
I agree with the part about freeway driving with a soft top. You have to have the ventilation on the second speed to keep the roof inflated. And that only does so much. Given that these are either the coldest or the warmest vehicle I prefer the soft top for the on/off convenience.
Hi David, I have to add about the “cool” factor of a hardtop. It’s the soft top that gets pretty cool, downright cold, in fact. When I was looking for a Jeep, a hardtop was of utmost importance. It, like all hardtops, adds a sense of security, and warmth, and I strongly recommend one.
I have a TJ and I must say it’s one of the most ill handling unsafe vehicle I have ever loved. My CJ probably handled worse but it’s been so long I can’t remember. Someone left a green duck in mine and I keep hoping it’ll blow away on a windy day but no luck yet.
how is this a barn find?
Barn Finds is just the name of this site… If you haven’t noticed, it is also an auction site and a money making machine for the owners, and to be honest, this IS America and more power to them… Go Barn Finds!
Also, if your comparing, there is rarely anything on Bring a Trailer that actually requires a trailer… just my opinion.
Actually, many vehicles sold on BaT need a trailer –
that way you don’t add miles to them, thus retaining their
investment potential.
Still not sure about the duck thing.Could
someone please explain it?
Is that what all of those toys on the dash are for?
@ angliagt, Google duck duck jeep and learn how the practice came to be.
My ‘05 Wrangler Sport TJ handles better than any Wrangler/CJ before it, but people expecting one to handle like a car are often disappointed. At 64 I haven’t reached the point where I would trade my 6 spd for a slushbox, the shifting is a big part of the fun for me. But this one looks like a clean example, hard to go wrong.
…MrBZ….I read you! at 78 I am not ready to give up my manual 5 speeds….yet, I am considering this one to replace my 2004 with 100K miles…still torn though, all my 3 “toys” are manual….
Howard.. A hardtop and a bikini top are the 2 choices by my buddys w Jeeps.
And Wet Okole seat 💺 covers.
Yeah’ I could see that as a viable option, the problem, for me, is storing the hardtop when not in use….
1995 was the last of the Jeep Wranglers built for off road. Leaf springs all around 4:11 gears, 5speed manual.
After that they became Mall Queens.
One thing remains, real jeeps have a drinking problemand cult following
….not sure I agree with that, my 2004 tj is no mall queen!! But I do agree that it has a drinking problem…like 16/18 mpg….🤓
BTW…no one has asked so far: why is the seller parting with such a good looking tj?
I can’t speak to TJs but I have a YJ (Islander) and it is in the top two of my favorite vehicles I’ve owned to date (and I’ve had a good number over the years). It will be one that doesn’t leave the stable down the road unless it is to my son when I’m too old to enjoy it any longer. Many great memories in the Jeep, and more to come. It is just such a fun all around summer vehicle and being an Islander, looks the part. I should note that I don’t daily drive it, but it does get a lot of use (outside of winter).
