In the 1960s, there was no shortage of massive cars to choose from, but by the mid-1970s, options were dwindling. Between emissions regulations and the fuel crisis, most people weren’t looking for a big cruiser, but a few luxury land yachts were still being built for those who prized space over efficiency. This 1974 Imperial LeBaron was one of the holdouts and was as big as it was comfortable. It is offered at no reserve in Livermore, Colorado, and the seller reports a clean title.

Under the hood is a 440-cubic-inch V8 paired with a TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The seller says the engine starts and runs, but the Imperial has not been driven because two tires are flat. The transmission, brakes, and other systems’ performance on the road remains unknown, so the next owner should plan to replace the tires and have the mechanicals checked before hitting the open road.

The seller describes the car as original and rust-free. Its sides look straight in the photos, and much of the exterior trim appears to be present, though the body and underside deserve a closer look. Inside, the blue upholstery stands out. Talk about plush! The seats appear well preserved, while the cabin needs cleaning and the headliner shows some wear. A 1974 owner’s manual is pictured, and hopefully there’s other documentation still with it. The odometer displays 25,555 miles, but actual mileage has not been verified.

This Imperial could be a rewarding way to enjoy 1970s luxury once it is back on the road. At 231 inches long, this LeBaron is one of the longest production vehicles ever built; it’s even longer than a modern Suburban. With its massive footprint and overstuffed seats, it must be an incredibly smooth, stately vehicle to drive. So, if you’ve been hunting for a massive luxury cruiser, this one is definitely worth a closer look!
