Whether it’s a Coupe, a Fastback, or a Convertible, you can’t ever go wrong with a first-generation Ford Mustang. This 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible left the factory with the 225-horsepower A-code 289 V8 and has since gained a four-speed manual, power steering, and a new white top. Finished in dark blue metallic over a blue interior, it is located in Guilford, Connecticut, and is offered for $36,500 with a clean title.

According to the seller, the first owner bought the Mustang new on January 14, 1966, from Campbell Ford in Waterbury, Connecticut, and the car has remained in the state throughout its life. The current owner purchased it from an estate several years ago; that previous owner is believed to have been its second custodian. Receipts from the 1990s reportedly record approximately 18,000 miles, while the odometer now shows 33,131. The seller believes that the reading represents the car’s actual mileage.

The previous owner repainted the Mustang in its original dark blue metallic, and the finish looks good in the photos. The seller notes two fine scratches and describes the underside as rust-free, though less detailed than the top side. The two-tone blue interior is said to be original apart from replacement carpeting. It shows some age and could benefit from cleaning, but the seats, door panels, and dash look well preserved. The trunk retains its original mat and jack, according to the seller.

The factory 3-speed manual has been replaced with an iron-case Toploader 4-speed and a new clutch. Other work includes a dual stainless steel exhaust, NOS power-steering equipment, and new drum brakes on all four wheels. The brakes remain unassisted. The limited-slip rear axle was rebuilt with 3.25:1 gears in place of the previous 3.00:1 ratio to make better use of that 4-speed. Chrome valve covers and an air cleaner dress up the engine, while the original pieces and radio remain.

The seller reports smooth shifting, working gauges and electrical accessories, and a power-operated top that raises and lowers readily. One expense to plan for is a set of tires: the Michelin radials are reportedly date-coded 1993–94, despite still looking good. With fresh tires and verification of the mileage records, this Mustang could suit someone looking for an early V8 convertible with useful upgrades and much of its original cabin intact. The owner is reducing a small collection, so could this be the Mustang you make room for?
