We’re big fans of the Dodge / Plymouth / Chrysler Starion cars here at Barn Finds, and this early widebody example is shared with us by Barn Finds reader Henry Rice. This is one of the better known captive imports from the era in which Chrysler and Mitsubishi were sharing an awful lot of hardware, and while it has some needs, the seller has also proactively tackled a number of maintenance projects. The asking price is $6,000.
Henry notes that he is over-extended with projects, hence why this car is for sale. He notes further about the cosmetic and mechanical health of the Conquest: It has leather interior, 5 speed with limited slip, rebuilt T04-12A/14Bx8cm3 hot side hybrid turbo w/intercooler, TBI intake enhancements, 21/2″ exhaust, new 255 gph fuel pump with rising rate fuel pressure regulator, new slotted brakes and pads, InnovateTC-2 piggy back AFR management system w/ wide band and speck AFR gauge.
The interior appears to be holding up in acceptable condition, with black leather looking used but not tired. The leather may be a touch dry, but that be remedied by a professional detailer or your own hands some Sunday afternoon. Lots of spare parts are included in the sale, including: A/C system (prior owner had taken it out) I have all used parts for it; new custom built intercooler, new 8:1 hypereutectic pistons, new non-jet solid lifter cylinder head complete, DIY EFI manifold and tubular exhaust, new AR-60 turbocharger and associated plumbing hardware, balance shaft delete kit, and engine block.
Being able to build the engine your way or simply enjoy it in its current form is an ideal happy medium, and while some may prefer a car in completely stock condition, a Conquest that hasn’t been overly modified is hard enough to find. More new parts have been added and mechanical needs are said to be minor: “Four brand new lowering springs and adjustable perches and a new set of GR-2 gas shocks already installed; car will need rear e-brake cables, catalytic convertor and small vacuum stuff to smog in most places. My loss, your gain…even now, this is a fun, fast, excellent handling car.”

I always loved these cars. Great stance, low enough production numbers to not see them at every stop light in the 80’s. If I didn’t already have too many cars, I’d check this one out!
I’m interested but those pictures suck dude. How bout some of the whole car? It looks like you’re trying to hide something. Is the motor smoking those are some high miles for these cars?
No front and rear photos? Are the interior photos not showing the outer bolsters because they’re worn out? I do like the new 255 mph fuel pump, does that require a speedometer update?

I can’t think of any car I had more fun driving! Ever! And I wasn’t a big import fan. I grew up in the American muscle era and loved them, but by 1986 that was a distant memory. These things were fast, and handled great. I too would love to have it, but too many projects already.
Another sweet import car that didn’t hit the Canadian market… truly a shame.
Sold as Mitsubishi Starion in Canada. I saw many in the 80’s in the Ottawa area.
I always though the wheels really set this car off…..my son runs a set of them on his Lexus SC300.
More pictures for sure, but it sounds like there’s at least $6K of extras and the money was spent on all the right stuff. Definitely worth investigating further if this model is on your wish list.
A friend had those wheels on his truck and didn’t want to spend the extra $ $ $ for 16″ tires when they wore out back in 90’s. I traded him my stock 15″ Toyota pickup wheels for these. As most of you know the front wheels were a different size than the rears. I put these on a white 1988 Toyota longbed xtra cab pickup. When I figure out how to load pictures on this site I will put it up. Everybody thought they were Supra wheels. Just to mess with some folks I would tell them , nope and then ask if they knew what vehicle they came off of.
I always thought they were a nice looking car. Obviously a Japanese copy of a Porsche 944. Boy Racer parts make me think it has been ridden hard and put away wet many a time in it’s 145,000 miles. BTW only two letters can turn Turbo into Trouble. Had a Turbo once, it was OK. Detractions were bad lag and all the extra heat under the hood to cook everything made of rubber.
I had 2 of those that were identical color” sort of an orangeish red color both equipped alike. Funny thing is one was badged as a Doge conquest and the other was badged as a Chrysler conquest. They were one year different in Year models. You would not believe the power and speed those little turbocharged 4 cylinders in those things. At the same time I had a 69 stingray, an 84 Corvette and a Nissan 300ZX, I actually believe either of those Conquest would have outrun any of the other Cars I had at the time. They were really fast.Wish I still had some pictures of all the cars I had, someone broke into my house and shop while I was living at my lake house and cleaned out everything in both the house and shop. Even stole Picture frames hanging on the walls and ripped all the pictures out of the frames and threw them out in the yard where they got rained on and ruined. To loose all the pictures of you kids growing up and all the cool cars You had all your life can be about the worst thing to ever happen to a person. No matter how secure and protected you think your property is there is always a way someone will steal it.
