Big Block Project: 1968 Dodge Charger R/T

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The history of this 1968 Dodge Charger can be traced back to around 1995, which is about the time it is said to have been taken off the road, and it’s going to take a lot of hours, patience, parts, hard work, and bread to get this one back on the street again.  But if you’ve got a strong set of skills and a good source of B-Body parts, perhaps this one may be a project worthy of consideration.  This 1968 Dodge Charger is an R/T model, so that’s good news, and it can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $10,000.  The car is located in Edmond, Oklahoma, and is said to have resided in the Sooner State all its life.

The seller has listed the Charger for a friend, who bought it years ago as a parts car.  Even back then, the front clip was already missing when it was purchased, although there is no apparent evidence of any front-end structural damage prior to those pieces being removed.  The inner fenders, radiator support area, and front of the frame are all said to be undamaged.

The 440 is believed to be the original engine, but the seller says that it’s probably stuck which seems like a reasonable assumption.  A previous owner had already taken off the oil pan, valve covers, and intake manifold but some of these and a few other motor parts are inside the trunk area. The automatic transmission is still present and also believed to be original, but the rear axle is from a Dodge Pickup.

There’s not a whole lot left inside, and what is still remaining isn’t looking so great.  The front bucket seats were removed and have been stored indoors, and although the seller says they are in pretty good condition we don’t get to see them.  The back seat hasn’t fared as well, and the console and numerous other interior parts are MIA.  The front windshield is bad and the passenger side door glass is broken.

The Charger was originally equipped with a white vinyl top, but it was removed years ago to preserve the roof’s sheet metal, although there is some rust around the rear window.  We don’t get any photos from underneath, but the rear floor pans are stated to be very weak and there’s some rust in the quarter panels.  This is definitely not a project for the inexperienced or faint of heart, but maybe somebody out there can give this one some love and bring it back to life.  What are your thoughts on this 1968 Dodge Charger R/T?

10K? For what? Number two on September’s “you’ve got to be kidding” list. Got to meet whoever put that bid out. Probably has big ears and a tail and sounds like a wet cat in a garbage can.

At least not a Mopar. Pontiac had those wonderful 8 lug wheels..

It does state it has a truck rear in it.

I think the 1968 Charger just may have the most cleverly hidden back-up lamps ever used.

I’m a Mopar guy, but there’s a reason its sitting in a junkyard- This was a junker that someone bought as a parts car years ago ,and then sold again as a stripped out parts car before being junked . That truck rear was something that was just stuck in so it could be rolled out of someone’s yard on its way to where it sits. The body wasn’t in too bad of condition, and the block was stripped, so the engine likely was blown . The door rust is from sitting for years with the windows down..or missing. Cant see much worth in this except for the vin#

      I must say, i disagree.
its an orginal paint, solod and straight body, the most important part of a car, everything else bolts on.
For someone with a not strait or rotted body, this is a great opportunity.

Looking at the Ebay pictures , Id say you were half right . Its straight, but the floor is rotted, the trunk floor is rotted, the roof is rotted, the doors are rotted and hacked out from the inside , both quarter panels are rotted , and that just what you can see – who knows what the frame rails are like, the rears are prone to rust and this car has a lot of it everywhere else !

maybe its the pic or me or both, but seems like one side of the radiator support is lower than the other? Junk

Just like early Porsches, every Charger R/T will eventually see the light of day again.

Some slight work is required. ha You better have your own body/mechanical shop or some very deep pockets.
