Everyone loves a good Corvette barn find, but this one may not be for everyone. It has rust in the frame and the engine isn’t original. The seller has owned the car since the early 2000s though and seems very forthcoming with all the issues. They aren’t sure what engine it originally had, but it was most likely a base car. Still, what would you give to have a classic Corvette roadster? This one is listed here on eBay where bidding ends Friday!
1966 was the first year for the might 427 V8! It’s fun to imagine that this was once one of those highly desirable fire-breathing monsters, but it’s doubtful. Right now there’s a 350 from a ’73 installed. Big block power would be the most exciting replacement, but there is something to be said for the affordability of keeping a small block in there.
Things are a mess inside. Parts of the dash have been disassembled and haphazardly scattered about, but I can spot a 4-speed shift knob! A big block with an automatic would be fun, but a small block that’s attached to a manual could provide almost as much entertainment for a lot less money. Not that you should be penny pinching with a project like this though. It’s going to be pricey anyway you look at it.
This could be the perfect project for someone who wants to build their dream Corvette. It’s going to need a new frame or at least a lot of patching. It needs paint and an engine. Heck, it needs just about everything, so why not do it how you want? Personally, I’d want something subtle with modest power and improved handling. Would you go the opposite direction and build something that’s ready to burn up the quarter mile? Either way, it’s fun to dream…
LS3, LS7, so many options. I’d have it look original on top, big brakes, better suspension, LS underneath. If the motor isn’t original you can make it stock anytime. A modern LS 427 will have more power, less weight and better economy. Done rite it would be worth more than a 327 car.
What a piece of S H I T. I would not give the owner 14 dollars for the car much less 14 rhousand.

Small block 4-speed power would be fun. I am truly amazed at the locations where some of these classic muscle cars have been stored. Some look like they should have been condemned.
He seems honest enough but IMHO I wouldn’t pay the 14K the high bid is now.
GASSER! There used to be one of these at a local muffler shop out front. Green metallic. Straight axle, nose in the air. I remember it having a dual carb blower and a Hilborn injection setup at different times. Had the 12 spoke gasser wheels on front, radiused rear openings, slicks sticking out on some deep slottled mags.
I mean, if it’s looking this bad, why not make a tribute or nostalgia drag car out of it? And yes I know I mostly champion keeping them original, but this one looks pretty roached as is. No matter what someone does to it, it will draw attention once it is pulled out of the garage.

Except for the color and the nose is lower, that could be the car I remember as well.
The seller states it has a 5-5500 red line tach. What was the tach red line on a low HP 427-390HP ‘Vette, ’cause it looks like a 427 style hood? I’m not a cebby guy, but some big block low HP engines also have low RPM’s. No thumbs down please, just asking, for informational purposes. I know the hood could have been replaced years earlier.
