Black Magic: 1976 Dodge Warlock Power Wagon

I know I can’t be the only one lamenting the lack of cool factory-custom vehicles these days. You just wouldn’t see a manufacturer build something like this 1976 Dodge Warlock Power Wagon anymore. This Warlock is actually being sold with another (non-titled) ’77 Warlock for parts included in the price. The trucks are located in Olivehurst, CA and can be found here on eBay with a Buy-it-Now price of $7,500 with an option to make an offer.

Both trucks are currently non-running and a bit on the rough side but between the two of them, it looks like there’s a lot to work with, especially for the price. On the titled ’76 truck there is a good deal of what could politely be called “patina,” although there doesn’t appear to be much in the way of real through-and-through rot however the seller does disclose the floors and front fender will require attention. Rust on the parts truck is a fair bit worse but could still hopefully be used to fill in any problem areas on the ’76. Body rust aside, the seller states that both trucks are sitting on solid, rot-free frames.

The interior on the ’76 is fairly rough and both seats would definitely need to be professionally reupholstered. The seller does indicate that the dash is in excellent condition with no cracks – I’m guessing the towel is there to ensure it stays that way. These Warlocks had a lot of neat little touches inside as well as out, like the gold trim accents on the dash & doors and what Dodge referred to as a “tuff” steering wheel. The truck still retains its original 8-track player, and if the winning buyer doesn’t continuously blast “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper” outta that thing I am going to be extremely disappointed in them.

The seller states the ’76 Warlock comes with the fairly common 318 V8 engine which is complete except for the carb. It’s not specified which engine is in the ’77 parts truck but it appears to be the same. There’s certainly no shortage of labor in store for the prospective buyer to resurrect this truck, but there’s a lot of good stuff to work with here and the end result will be undeniably awesome. So, will you fall under this truck’s spell and make an offer?

Yes, I lamenting the lack of cool factory vehicles, particularly ones with great names like this. (A warlock is a male practitioner of evil magic.) This would never fly today.

If the truck “identified” itself as a Warlock they could possibly get away with it. 😂

Looks like you could build both trucks. Have seen a lot worse come back to life. Especially if the frames are solid as claimed.

If I lived closer I would offer 5K for both then sell both motors and drop a crate 340 in the black one, fix the body and have it panted to original look, then order a set of Little Red Express chrome exhaust stacks, install them, new tires and magnum 500s and go have fun.

You would really pay that much for two parts trucks?

Similar thoughts as I read the post…if both vehicles are equally and comparably dilapidated,, which is for parts and which is for fixing?

Loved the Dodge truck promotions in that period. “Red Express”, cool looking stepside …”Jean Machine ” with denim stitching stripes. Not a great time for Chrysler Corp. Solid trucks to be sure. 225, 318, 360 with a 727 ? Only the rust monster could beat them over time !

I am going to buy this truck and turn it into a Warlock.

This truck looks really straight front, back and sides.

They want about 2 grand US for it.

It will be a nice project.

I believe any color was offered.
I understand the Warlock package was a “dress up” deal, where you ordered any truck, any driveline ( 2wd or 4wd ), any engine, etc etc, and then ticked Warlock to get the graphics.
I saw all kinds of these at Carlisle Mopar event years ago. All colors, club cabs, reg cabs, long and short box, etc etc.

I had the 1:25 scale MPC kit of the ‘78 Warlock. The kit was based on a 4×4 truck. Gold trim over black was THE thing in the ‘70s!

A friend back in the day had a black Warlock with the gold pin striping. Really a nice looking truck all clean and shined up.

    Wouldn’t a Warlock’s favorite song be ” Black Magic Woman ” ?

I still remember as a kid, with my dad, crawling up on the step behind the cab and checking out the truck on the dealer’s lot. Good memories.
