It’s ironic that this handsome, full-sized convertible is a LeSabre (the sword), because it is one sharp-looking big blue Buick. Based on the provided photos and description, it’s been well cared for, garage-kept, and has 83,000 original miles on the clock. And according to the seller, only 2,485 LeSabre convertibles were built in 1970, so it has the rare factor working it its favor as well. It is currently residing in Bohemia, New York and is for sale here on eBay. As I’m writing this, it has had 10 bids with the highest being $13,500 but not meeting the seller’s reserve. There’s also a blue “Buy It Now” button price of $18,000.
The LeSabre’s background and history isn’t shared other than it has only had two owners in 53 years and there’s “paperwork since new” including the original sales invoice from Brigante-Karl Buick in Brooklyn, N.Y. dated October 24, 1969. It’s had one repaint 20 years ago and I really like the shade of the Diplomat Blue color. It presents very well and shines nicely. There’s no rust in sight and I’m seeing no issues with the chrome, stainless, trim, badging, or glass. The white convertible top looks good, is said to “go up and down fast”, and compliments the Diplomat Blue paint nicely. And I also like the choice of wheels on this Buick. Stock LeSabre wheel covers for 1970 were kind of meh, but these give the drop top a bit of a sporty look, just as the Buick sales brochure stated: “Five-spoked chrome-plated wheels are a must for anyone who wants to give his 1970 Buick the look and flair of a thoroughbred sportster.” The whitewall tires are relatively new with less than 1,000 miles on them.
LeSabre Custom Convertibles had well-appointed vinyl interiors that came in Blue, Saddle, Red, or Black. Except for a few small tears in the driver’s seat, the interior’s dark blue seats, door panels, dash, and carpet all look very good for a 53-year-old convertible. Even though the LeSabre was the “entry-level” line in the Buick family, this one came from the factory well-optioned. The sales invoice lists a Turbo-Hydro Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, AM-FM Stereo Radio, Air Conditioner, Chrome Plated Wheels, Ride & Handling Option, Remote Control Sideview Mirror, and more. The seller shares that the clock doesn’t work and the A/C could use a recharge. There’s also an under-the-dash mounted 8-Track Tape Player that “sounds kind of slow sometimes, but it might be old tapes.”
Powering the LeSabre is Buick’s 350-cubic inch V8 with 83,000 original miles that’s paired to a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic automatic transmission. The seller doesn’t describe how it runs, but based on the overall nice condition of this Buick, I’m guessing it purrs just fine. I really like this Buick. Some lucky third owner is going to get a full-sized, blue-on-blue, comfortable, easy-to-drive Buick convertible that’s in great shape. Are you the lucky one?

When the seller says “the ac could use a recharge”…why not just do it? Isn’t that one less thing you’d have to apologize for when you’re asking $18k? I just don’t get it.
It could need a conversion, (as I expect my 2001 Chrysler may need.) I’m just about ready to turn 78K.
I always read “needs a recharge” as “AC system leaks somewhere and I don’t wanna mess with it”.

In my experience when a seller says something like this, it’s not a “quick fix” and you better be prepared to spend some $$$ fixing it.
Could be that there’s more to the “could use a recharge”. Could be a very expensive “recharge”. In my day, needing an a/c recharge has cost me a dryer, hoses, and even a compressor. Unlike some car sellers, I make sure that A/C is charged and blowing frigid air, but I change fluids and filters before even trying to sell the car. It goes a long way.

As a dork that has restored 8-track tapes… you just remove the deteriorated foam pad behind the tape (if it’s still there) and replace with an appropriate sized cut of 1/4″ weather stripping foam. Good as new.

Kudos to the seller creating a quality ad that has everything you need and nothing more. Sure everyone is going to have a handful of questions on a car for sale but this ad certainly checked most of the boxes. I say this after just reading the eBay listing for 72 442 on BF. Checks all the boxes on doing everything wrong: terrible pictures(even deceptive), A flipper that’s too lazy to even take a couple hours to obtain important key information and 25 ego stroking paragraphs of worthless dribble that mean basically nothing to the particular car for sale……..
Anyway, this LeSabre looks to be a winner, very surprised it didn’t bid higher, good thing it’s 2000 miles away. :)

You sure get a lot more car for the dollar on the full size models. Same engine sizes as found in mid-sized muscle cars, too. Most of them are still priced within an average enthusiast’s price range. I said enthusiast, not collector.

A Beautiful LeSabre, I would purchase this vehicle in a heartbeat. My father owned a freshman design 69 LeSabre 4-door hardtop back in the late 70’s, same color blue. That car was a very nice piece of transportation for my father to drive for several years. As a kid in my very early teens I recall criticizing the steering wheel design as I was used to seeing the “three bar” design on most American cars of that decade back then as well as cars produced in the 60’s. But Buick/GM always delved in “rarity’ when it came to certain models and brands. Also I’ve always been an admirer of those beautiful Buick sport rims, Lovely car.

WOW! such beauty and elegance, exquisite design in body lines. I love this car. But then I really love Buicks from 70 on back. A drop top to boot, what is there to not love about this car? Of course it’s longer that most modern garages so alterations may be in store for the garage. lol. This is a dream car for those of us who really admire looking at classic body styles. It’s gone so no need to relish the idea of long sunny rides through open country roads with the top down, but a guy sure can dream.

Please understand the concept of irony before trying to explain said concept. It is completely UN- ironic for a sharp looking car to be named LeSabre. A sharp looking car named Le Blugeon? THAT’S IRONY. Had they named the brick like trucks of the 80’s LeSabres? THAT’S IRONY. A sharp looking car named after a sharp weapon? NOT IRONIC.

That’s a beautiful car with the rite options including the factory under dash 8 track & power windows, a 455 would have made it super perfect and I would take it home and have the interior re done in white, would be a dream, my wife sez no, 1 toy is enough

It amazes me how many people worry about the ac on old cars. Who cares, I never fixed or fix it on any of mine for the simple reason I don’t drive them enough to warrant such a waste. This car is stunning, great color, all the right options. Ac. Who cares. It hard to cool the thing with no roof…lol

Really clean and well kept,$18,000 is a great price.would have to update the a/c to 134a or 1234yf.R-12 regrigerant is obsolete.not used for cars since late 96.gone by 1997.
What original colors did the Lesabre come in when it was released? I am restoring mine, it was painted white (not the original color).
