Buried Alive: Pair of 1957 Chevrolet Bel Airs

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The “Tri-Five” Chevrolets of 1955 to 1957 are still considered iconic more than 65 years later. While the styling is timeless (especially with the finned ‘57s), they were the first eight-cylinder cars offered by Chevy in nearly four decades. The seller has a pair (we think) of 1957 Bel Air 2-door sedans, but only one seems to appear in the few photos that are provided. But that’s been enough to get the bidding up to $5,603 here on eBay for a duo of barn dwellers from Spring Hill, Florida.

If you wanted to go upscale with your 1957 Chevy, you ordered the Bel Air which was available in seven body styles, which included the 2-door Sport Wagon, the Nomad. Far more buyers went with the Sport Coupe at 142,500 copies vs. the 2-door Sedan like the seller’s (63,000 units). Drivers could choose between the standard 235 cubic inch I-6 or V8s with displacements of either 265 or 283 cubes (the latter was new in ’57). We don’t know which applies to the seller’s car (s) or even if they still have engines.

Categorized as a “Corvette” in the listing, we’re told there are two exact Bel Air bodies for sale. The one in the pics is bright yellow and far from complete, with glass and at least one door off of the vehicle. We’re told the pair is in “decent shape” but will need to be dug out of the dilapidated barn where they’ve been for more than 20 years. If there is a second car in there somewhere, perhaps there’s enough here to make one good automobile. Or serve as a source of parts for another project you may have. Only a trip to the storage site will reveal what’s really there.

The other Bel Air is underneath the yellow one, keeping it off the dirt floor…

Actually, the other one isn’t shown in the original photos. I emailed and asked. It’s in front of this one that is shown.

So sad! Are you afraid to pull it out of the shed because it might fall to pieces?

Love the Camaro steering wheel. It adds to the completely rotted out cowl and windshield posts.

my ’76 Nova Super Sport had the same steering wheel, bought new in October of ’75….

Spring Hill, Florida is also home to one of the remaining ‘dinosaur’ attractions which was fashioned out of a concrete like substance (sort of like underground pool lining material) and once was the landmark home to a small gas station and repair shop. Later it became a used car lot and was still standing a few years ago). These very cars may well have made it through those garage bay doors or gotten gas back in the day at the dino-pumps, or even been traded or sold at the car lot that later occupied the famous Dinosaur
