Buy One Get One? 1965 And 1978 Dodge Pickups

Wifey says they must go, so for $1,800, you can have both a 1965 and a 1978 Dodge pickup. They are listed on craigslist and located in Grass Valley, California. To be clear, or not, the title says $1,800, but the ad says; “$1.8000 will take both trucks” and another had said “1.800 take both trucks” so I’m thinking the $1.8000 is a typo. The 1965 pickup has a 6 with a standard transmission, the 1968 pickup has a V8 but there’s no word on the transmission. They appear to be complete with no obvious signs of rust. Both come with titles. Neither runs. The condition is listed as good.

The left side of the 65 looks decent as well. It appears to be just surface rust on the sill. A closer look and a picture of the bed would have been really nice.

This peek inside the ’78 Pickup is all we get. What we can see looks amazing! Do you think this is really the inside of his 1978 pickup? Could the reason he didn’t roll the window down for the picture be that this is someone else’s truck’s interior?

You can get a look inside the 1965 pickup by blowing up the picture of the right side. There appears to be only surface rust and no daylight showing through the floor, but it’s hard to tell for sure from this distance.

Here’s a peek at the slant six. It’s a mess but it’s all there. These engines are known for their dependability, but there could be a good reason it was parked.

The 1968 pickup looks pretty nice. One would ask lots of questions before venturing up to have a look, of course. What do you think you would find? These are California trucks, so they aren’t likely to be badly rusted. Going by the ad $1800 seems like a very reasonable price. It might even be an opportunity for a flipper. There’s no information on how long they have been sitting or what mechanical problems they have. If the ad is gone, it’s saved on Adsaver.

What can you say about this listing? 1800 seems like a really cheap price for two decent Dodge trucks. They look pretty good.

Now about the wife. Just today, my wife encouraged me to go look at a Volvo 1800 wagon I saw on CL. When she got back from work, I think she was kinda disappointed that I didn’t buy it. Lucky guy that Rex.

Nice pair of trucks. Seller could throw in the camper in the background for a nice retro 70’s camping rig.

Rust…who else notices the terrible rust on newer Chrysler products? I see rust through regularly on 5-10 year old Ram pickups…wheel wells and tailgates. I saw a 5 year old Challenger with bad rust on rear wheel wells. Embarrassing given the price of new cars. I live in Central Indiana were road salt is light to moderate.

My 2008 ram has rust on bed and the doors are starting to go , also tailgate. already replaced rear bumper cause of massive rust, They don’t last like they use too. Damn salt and Brine they spray on Northern Ohio roads.

Here’s a mold breaker for ya’, a reasonably priced vintage pickup in California. I’ll be darned. Usually, from Cal. the $18,000 dollar price would make more sense. While the ’78 was just a darn good truck, I have little interest, but the ’65 is down right cool. Great deal here, hope it’s legit.

Buy both. Sell the ’78 as is for $1800. Take $ and invest in the ’68 that you just got for free.

Grass valley is in far north central California. Shouldn’t be much of a rust problem. I grew up in Redding. Grass Valley is a bit further north and more mountainous, lots of farms that grow grass, which makes the name quite fitting. Older vehicles don’t bring the kind of money as those in the cities. If you go there to see these vehicles you might not want to leave, but be prepared there’s not a lot of work to be had there either.

Grass Valley is almost 150 miles south east of Redding. It’s 60 miles nort east of Sacramento, just off the main highway that goes to Reno. If it was as far north as Redding price would be fair considering how economically depressed the area is, because it’s so close to Sacramento it’s a deal.
