It seems like most of the news lately regarding Fox-body Mustangs is how much some are exchanging hands for, especially well-cared-for survivors with the 5.0 engines. This 1983 model here on Craigslist isn’t anywhere near perfect, but it does appear mostly complete and comes with the favorable powerplant and transmission combo. Priced at $6.500, this one’s also within reach of many enthusiasts who’ve been seeking a such-equipped third-generation Mustang. This cool pony is located in Port Angeles, Washington, on the state’s northern coast of the Olympic Peninsula. For what we’re seeing here, the asking price doesn’t sound unreasonable, and a huge thank you goes out to reader Barney for sending us the tip here!

The seller doesn’t provide a wealth of information regarding his Mustang, only telling us he bought it to perform a restoration himself. As is sometimes the case, those intentions never materialized, and now he’s ready to pass this one along to someone else. The canopy doesn’t provide a whole lot of outside protection, but it’s better than nothing, and the visible areas of the car appear to be straight and solid. Just a thorough washing would result in the exterior appearing a lot better, and I’m not sure it would take much more than that for this one to become a decent-looking driver.

Other than telling us the drivetrain consists of a 5.0 and a 5-speed manual transmission, the seller mentions little else about the pair, but he does confirm that the car starts, runs, drives, and stops. An odometer reading of 1.234.567 is posted, so that’s probably fictitious, but if this Mustang has passed the million-mile mark, it’s beaten the odds! I think it’s safe to say that the mileage may be unknown, and it’s also a mystery if the V8 would benefit from an overhaul, or if there is some good life remaining for the future owner to enjoy.

We only get to view this one interior photo, which seems to show what I’d consider to be about average condition for a 42-year-old driver that hasn’t had an extensive amount of upkeep. Just a new carpet or even a nice set of floor mats would go a long way in improving the appearance inside, and seat covers would be an inexpensive way to mask the wear on the buckets. I could certainly understand the desire to do a complete restoration here, but unless I’m missing something, this 1983 Ford Mustang doesn’t seem all that far away from becoming just a fun and affordable cruiser. What are your thoughts here?

Thanks Mike. The four-eyes get less attention and interest, but they are desirable Foxes too. I suspect this one is on the rough side, but that is not unusual. It may be worth the effort. If nothing else, clean it up and do a few low-cost upgrades (e.g. new carpet). First order of business: remove advertising from fan shroud.
Good point about the ad-good clue too to be a bit more wary of how it was driven but it’d undoubtedly be a blast to drive if it’s in decent shape. Autocross time!
Dual snorkel 🤿
Needs a bigger MSD sticker.
This one is savable as long as there is no major rust and the price seems ok!
This one is savable as long as there is no major rust and the price seems ok! It looks good with the original rims on it and looks to have newer cap rotor wire set on engine. Just remove the silly under hood stickers.
I think that car canopy helps about as much as a large breasted woman using a bra that’s 3 sizes too small for her lol.
Paul, if some of the vehicle owners here in N.E. Florida, used those canopies, their paint and interiors would last more than 5-7 years. Unfortunately, a lot of HOA’s here prohibit them.
Answer to that is don’t live where there’s an HOA! I don’t know even one person who lives in a neighborhood with an HOA that likes it.

Henry Davis,
Granted, many HOA’s are a nightmare. Many have their gated entrances and golf courses. We don’t have that and doubtful we ever will. The HOA where I live pretty much minds their own business. I have a 400 sq. ft. shop with lifts, a machine shop, and a 210 sq.ft garage with a 120 ft driveway linking the two. My property here isn’t the only one like that A quarter mile away, people goose hunt in season and fish in the estuaries. On boring weekends, we feed tourists to the gators. Care to visit ?
Got a lake with my own gators Able, but thanks for the offer. Thank goodness we don’t get many tourists, when too many of them turn up missing the Game Wardens start asking questions! My son is a real estate broker, says he advises customers to avoid HOAs if they can. I live on 30 acres at the end of the road, have 2 garages, a carport and a 6 car shed which I’ll soon make into a garage. Can’t see any neighbors nor can they see me, although they sometimes come by to borrow my lift. Heaven in north central Florida!
Henry, like the saying goes, the further North in Florida you go, the further South you are …….
Somehow I hadn’t heard that quote about North Florida, but it’s very true!
I live here in Las Vegas Nevada for 30 years and own a house for 26 years and do not live in a HOA neighborhood. They are every where out here and they will not let you do any thing to your property without there permission. And they change who is in charge every now and then, I know people that have a HOA and regret it years latter. Can’t even hang out and work on your own car to save yourself some money without someone ratting you out!
Nice, simple GT before they grew fog lamps (mid year ’84) and ground effects (’87).
Clean lines, and easily put back into nice quality driver status.
