Cobra Jet Project: 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Looking to attract more performance-oriented buyers to the Mustang, Ford introduced the Mach 1 model in 1969. Available only in the fastback (aka SportsRoof) body style, nearly 25% of all Mustangs built in its first year were the Mach 1, so the ploy was very successful. This one is a project that got as far as new paint several years ago and then the work came to a halt. It’s waiting on someone new to come along and pick up the pieces. Located in Longmont, Colorado, this Ford comes with a Cobra Jet 428 V8 but it’s in boxes. Here on eBay, bidding has leveled off at $14,900.

The 1969 Mach 1 could be distinguished by its matte black hood with hood pins, hood scoop, competition suspension, chrome pop-open gas cap, revised wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires, chrome exhaust tips, a deluxe interior, optional chin spoiler, rear deck spoiler, and optional rear window louvers (SportSlats). While the standard engine was a 351 cubic-inch, 2-barrel V8, you could roll the dice and go with a 428 Cobra Jet, with or without Ram Air induction. Of the 72,468 Mach 1s built in 1969, 10,468 came with either of the 428 set-ups.

As the story goes, this Mach 1 was stripped down years ago and treated to a rotisserie media blast and new paint. But the car has been sitting ever since and the car has attracted a few scratches while being moved around from here to there (it’s a roller). Nothing of the interior has survived, and the 428-motor was taken apart and machined, but it will require re-assembly. While we know from the VIN this was a Cobra Jet car, we don’t know if this is the engine the car was built with. It originally was a 4-speed Mustang, but a C6 conversion took place at some point. The rebuilt C6 comes along for the ride plus a spare 4-speed.

We’re told the title is clean but needs to be re-applied for. The seller says the car has been inspected by a local sheriff in an earlier attempt to get it retitled, but we don’t know why that was done or what it means. No mention is made of what has become of the brightwork and glass on this automobile, so you may have to go internet shopping to pull everything together needed to make this a running machine once again.

I have a keen interest in the Cub Cadet mower in the background…

Only interested if those jamming front tires/wheels are included. Looks okay, however “several years ago”, “in boxes”, and “no interior” prices this one over the value point to complete I’m thinking.

Painted to match his cub cadet lawn tractor nice?
Too much for the few included parts that may or may not be original to the car love these ( not that mustard color though) and if restored a high dollar car but lots of unknowns here

That color looks like the orange used for the “Twister Special” that would ‘ve been available in that area in ’69?
