Custom Vette: 1970 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Listed for sale here on Craigslist and located in Roanoke, Virginia is this 1970 Corvette. The seller is offering this ‘Vette with a clean title and an asking price of $15,500. A big thanks goes out to Barn Finder Ian C for referring this custom Chevy to us.

This Corvette is not going to be to everyone’s taste, but I kinda like it. Maybe it’s me but there are number of touches with this car that scream 1980s to me, but not in a bad way. I’m really quite taken by some of the details including the tilt front, which appears to have been executed quite well. Operation of the tilt is via an electric over hydraulic system. The only aspect that I’m not sold on is the tail-light treatment, but that is purely personal preference.

Under the tilt front rests a giant of a motor. The 454 is capable of getting up and going, there’s no question. This one has been recently rebuilt and feeds its power back to an automatic transmission. The Cragar wheels and tires are a recent addition and the knock-off spinners in the wheel centers is another little 1980s touch.

The interior doesn’t look that flash, but that’s not really a problem. It won’t be hard to bring the interior in line with the rest of the car since the seller is including a brand new deluxe interior which is still in the delivery box. Fit that baby up and this ‘Vette is pretty well complete.

We’ve had a few custom Corvettes come through the pages of Barn Finds over the last few weeks. The one thing that has been obvious with all of them is that every person has taken their own road on their modifications. One thing that I will say is that there have been aspects of every one of them that I’ve liked. I guess that this one strikes a chord with me because it reflects the tastes and modifications of the era when I first hit the road. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.

Loose the wing and change the tail lights back to stock, and this is cool.

I agree, that spoiler is a real “spoiler” for this car.

They look great in the 67-68 Firebird they came out of !!!!!

Agreed, that back taillight panel…..someone ran out of ideas, talent, skill ….something back there. Maybe they were just tired by the time they got to the back of the car!

How do I “LOOSE” the wing?

Pretty cool Vette. Not my preference overall but nicely executed. Somebody(ies) put a lot of work into finishing it out. Should be a blast to drive with the big Rat up front. $12k seems more reasonable though

Gotta have the hide away headlights that’s one of the features that made the
    Vette cool lookin!
The nose is just all wrong headlights are
    Spaced to close!

As for the taillights those have to go!
    Everything else looks good.

The taillights look like they came from a 68 firebird.

I like it. I like the tilt front end, the big block… I don’t even mind the spoiler in the back. Tail lights would need to go though if it were mine. I don’t know about those headlights…they seem a bit low to be legal.

Was the car previously wrecked? (first question I would ask) I don’t see the appeal in the rear, though I can appreciate the front end for both looks and practicality.

I am not a fan but hey if the person was trying for the “Corvette Summer” movie flop rerun of a 70s car the hood needed the massive scoupes for the Mark Hamilton 🤢😏

I like it a lot! After the interior upgrade, it would be off to the custom painter for some real 70’s touches! Maybe a mural on the hood. Guess what the mural would feature? Hint: No unicorns

I really like this Vette. And the price seems decent for a 454 car. Not a lot I would change other than redo the interior, straighten out the headlights, and maybe install a 6-71 to make use of that big hole in the hood.

    Hello

First they did not make a lot of 1970 Corvettes due to GM strike. Plus it’s a 454 4 spd car. I usually don’t like modified Corvettes. But I like this one

Its a 3 speed automatic and we dont even know if it originally came with a 454 or was it yanked out of a motorhome….

What, no Lambo doors, I’ll have to pass on this one then.

Recently, there was a 1970 listed on BF that had a Mako back half, mostly Mako paint, and the entire package was beautifully executed.

It, too, was a built 454 big block. It had the INFINITELY preferable Hurst-shifted M-22 4-speed ‘Rock Crusher’ transmission. Ask was $18,500.

This seems about right in comparison.

BTW – If the console top is original, and I am seeing what I think I am, this car was originally a factory A/C build – funky firewall add-on notwithstanding.
