Dad’s Clean, 40k-Mile 1996 Buick Roadmaster Limited Sedan

Like some of you reading this, I have assisted in selling a parent’s vehicle because they had reached an age where it was no longer safe for them to be driving. I can relate to this ad because my mom’s car was also a comfortable, practical, well-maintained, and very clean four-door sedan. Perfect for her drives to church, the grocery store, and the hair salon. Some call these “granny cars,” but I see nothing wrong with wanting to be surrounded with comfort, quiet, and luxury – whether you’re 37 or 87. In this example, a son or daughter is helping their retired father sell his super-clean 1996 Buick Roadmaster Limited Sedan. 1996 would be the last year GM offered a traditional body-on-frame, rear-wheel drive, V8-powered luxury sedan. And, boy, is this one a nice survivor.

The big, old Buick presents very well and is detailed very nicely. It has definitely lived a pampered life. Its Garnet Red Metallic paint is smooth and glossy and nearly perfect. The seller points out and shows the couple of scratches on the back side of the trunk lid and a small imperfection on the passenger side rear quarter panel. Other than that, the rest of the Roadmaster’s exterior looks terrific for being nearly 30 years old. It’s obviously been garage-kept and pridefully well cared for.

The complimenting garnet red interior is in wonderful condition with big, comfortable leather seats that carry on the Buick Roadmaster name and heritage for unapologetic luxury. It checks all the boxes that a buyer of a big, traditional comfy Buick would want. Driver and passenger comfort and convenience were paramount, and there was practically power everything, especially in the upper Limited trim level like this one. There’s some visible stretching of the leather on the driver’s seat, but the other seats look like they haven’t been sat on. The seller also states that everything works and its ashtrays are pristine – it’s never been smoked in.

Under that long garnet red hood lies a V8, but it’s not your traditional Buick V8 which had gone out of production in 1980. Roadmasters in 1996 were powered by a 350-cubic-inch, 260-horsepower small block Chevy V8 (the same LT1 engine used in the Corvette, but detuned) that’s mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer shows 40,844 original miles on this most excellent interstate cruiser. This super-clean survivor calls Wyoming, Minnesota home and is currently for sale here on craigslistΒ for $12,500. Super-spotter Rocco B. sent this great old Roadmaster our way and we thank you! Oh, sure, these big Buicks were dinosaurs when they were introduced for the 1991 model year and garnered a fair share of eye rolls, but they still have a following today (especially the Roadmaster Estate Station Wagon). It’s also satisfying to know that the proud Roadmaster name went out in a proper and fitting way. I envy the lucky second owner of “Dad’s” Buick. He or she is going to be getting a wonderful survivor of a truly bygone era.

An amazing crossover of my once owned 93 Roadmaster (blue) and 94 Brougham (in this color). I bought both in anticipation of enjoying The LAST of the Breed. Unfortunately both were plagued with numerous issues including premature rust though. This looks to be in great condition. GLWTS and thanks for helping your parents! πŸ‘

These are amazing automobiles, wonderful on the road and way more pep than anticipated. I’ve had two wagons, and one sedan of the same vintage, and this one is a twin to one my mother had, from which I had to finally to appropriate her keys.

Now this is a real car of the mid 90s. Not that ugly Impala SS.

I know that people lust over these because of the LT-1. but make mine a same year, same color Riviera with the supercharged V6, please.

I wonder if this is the one I saw at the all-GM show today. I didn’t look at it because there was a twin to this last year same show for sale with 100k miles on it.
    Maybe I should’ve.
This looks like a legit car, although being in Mn. definitely demands a look underneath and in the areas Rick W. discovered rust on his Cadillac.
Off car, but an ’87 442 at the show with 8,500 miles on it got more than a passing glance from me.

Last of the decent GM cars before they made everything front wheel drive. After a long hard day at work you can almost fall asleep on the drive home
