Dirty Pony: 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

There isn’t a ton of information in the ad for this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. It does say it has been sitting for about 20 years. Based on the photos, I’m guessing this is an auto body and/or mechanic shop? It can be found here on Facebook Marketplace with an asking price of $18,000. If you had to guess what the story on this car is, it may be a typical case of owner brings his car in for work. It is delayed for some reason and sits for a while. The owner never comes back to get it and it’s considered abandoned. It may also be a case of a stalled project? What’s your guess?

There are a few up-close shots of the interior, but nothing that really gives a good overall picture. You can tell it is probably mostly stock and untouched. There is also no photo of the engine compartment. The VIN is 9T02M130471 and there is a Marti Report available, which is a bonus. The VIN indicates it would have the 290 horsepower 351 cubic inch V8 and the ad says it is numbers-matching, so that’s a big plus.

The VIN also indicates it was produced in Metuchen, New Jersey and it is being sold from the Bronx, New York, so it may have spent its entire life in the North East. The snow tires on the rear would indicate it was probably driven year-round. There is some rust present as you can see in this photo, which also backs up the theory of yearly use. There is a pretty significant dent in the driver’s side door that will need to be addressed as well but overall, this doesn’t look like a bad project. What do you think?

$18,000 is all the money for this Mustang but a bare shell professional restoration would produce a very fine looking mustang with that color combination, what the base engine may lack is made up for by that stick shifter.

That’s not the base engine .

Base was a 351w-2V motor of 250HP. The m code was $50 for a 4V carb and dual exhaust/ tips. Good for 290 HP!

So she’d be “worth” something like $50-60 after a high quality restoration. The question is…. can you get there from here, or are you under water before the job is complete?

I’ve seen some. Ice originals mach 1s for $30-35k. Prices are down from even a few years ago!

The dust almost looks to good to be true. Nothing else is dusty in the shop. Reverse the shop vac and let er buck.

The lug nuts aren’t all tight on the rear tire ; its possible it was just put on because the tires that were on the car went flat . This is a New England car ; it looks about what most cars would have looked like after 10 -15 years of use , so it really may have been stored away for years.

The rust in the quarter panel is worrisome. Mustangs rarely look better on the underside than they do on the outside.

Its a potential beautiful future car.

It would’ve been nice to peek under the hood with pictures. The four speed is a desirable option.

I keep trying to check the stereo picture out. Is it a 8 track or cassette?
The two buttons on top seems to be fast fwd and reverse but the-buttons on bottom remind me of an 8 track….

If any barn find readers live closer and want it they should look over car rust and arrive with cash to negotiate a deal.
I see 12 grand but maybe i am crazy to think its worth more.

    Heres a maroon beautiful beast…

I don’t believe 8 tracks could be rewound. One direction and one direction only.

Absolutely not able to be rewound, you had to play each teach thru, or change tracks 1-4 learned a lot of album songs waiting for the hit, that’s why DJs in club sold mix tapes

I owned a 69 Torino GT Fastback, 351, 4bbl, NO power equip, used the stang deck pins and hooks, had Ford install the active induction scoop,, I do not recall a tape deck as an option. I had one installed and quad stereo speakers locally.

He says that’s how people buy things now. Wash it? No. Gennaro sez dese people like dirt on their cars. Add 5 g’s to the price. They’ll Neva know!”

Is that dust or overspray? Nice car, at least at some point in time, really just another luke warm Mach 1.

M code is a Windsor 4 barrel engine. H code is a 2 barrel Windsor engine. Cleveland engine wasn’t available until 1970 and used the same nomenclature.

Cool Mustang for sure, worth restoring. But the dust looks fake. See the drips running down the right front fender?

Not worth 18K even with the 4 speed. Base 351 2bbl and rust everywhere. Like the other poster stated, 12K is a good price. By the time you replace sheet metal, put a nice paint job on it and redo the entire interior and exterior, you’re in for another 25K. 351 Mach 1s aren’t worth 40K plus .
