This 1969 Mustang Mach 1 is one of those project cars where its worst problems are clearly visible to potential buyers. While its exterior exhibits some flaws, the news below the skin is pretty positive. The owner has revived it after years of inactivity, and he says that the buyer could climb behind the wheel and drive this classic home. They could then tackle the restoration work as time and circumstances allow it while still reveling in the classic motoring experience. Located in Overland Park, Kansas, you will find the Mach 1 listed for sale here on eBay. It has only attracted a single bid of $23,500 in what appears to be a No Reserve auction. However, with 85 people watching the listing, that situation could change at any time.

The owner dragged this Mach 1 into the light of day after spending several decades in storage. What he found is a Champagne Gold classic that exhibits plenty of external flaws, but that is structurally sound. Apparently, the floors, frame rails, and shock towers are rust-free. The driver’s door has been replaced at some point, and there are numerous dings and dents that will demand the buyer’s attention. Both rear quarter panels have damage and what appears to be rust in the lower areas, which means that I wouldn’t be surprised if the buyer chooses to replace both panels. The quality of the supplied photos isn’t great, but I think there might be some spots emerging in the lower front fenders and the bottom corners of the door. The remaining lower extremities look pretty clean. Some of the trim will require replacement, but the tinted glass is in good order.

If the buyer intends to retain the Mustang as a largely original survivor, they won’t need to spend a lot of money on the interior. There is a seam separation on the driver’s seat, and this has probably gone beyond the point where it could be repaired. That means that they would need to spend $290 for a new set of front covers, and I would also add a further $200 for seat foam to do the job correctly. The rest of the trim appears to be respectable, while there are no significant issues with the carpet, dash, or pad. The original rim-blow wheel has been removed due to deterioration, but it is included in the sale. The interior isn’t loaded with luxury extras, but the original owner ordered it with an AM radio.

The owner supplies no engine photos, but he tells us plenty about this classic’s mechanical health. It is a numbers-matching survivor that features an H-Code 351ci V8, a 3-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power front disc brakes. With 250 horsepower on tap, the Mach 1 should be capable of covering the ¼ mile in 15.9 seconds. Because the car had been sitting for decades, the owner was thorough in his revival process. He has replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump, filters, sender unit, lift pipe and fitted a new Holley 2-barrel carburetor. He also treated the vehicle to a new master cylinder, new rear wheel cylinders, new rear shoes, along with new front pads and rotors. He decided to finish this job properly by replacing all of the brake lines and hoses. He hasn’t touched the suspension or the steering beyond replacing the power steering hoses, so the buyer might choose to attack these areas as part of the restoration project. However, the upshot of all of this hard work is a Mustang that now runs and drives well. The owner is so confident that he says that the successful bidder can rock up and drive this classic home.

It is easy to see why this 1969 Mustang Mach 1 has generated so much interest since it was listed for sale. It should represent a straightforward restoration project if it is as structurally sound and mechanically healthy as the owner indicates. With that thought in mind, I am surprised that there has only been a single bid to this point. However, I believe that this will change pretty soon.
