Dumb and Dumber Tribute! 1997 Ford E-150 Van

Are you a fan of the 1994 Jim Carrey movie, Dumb and Dumber? If you are, you might also be a fan of the “Mutt Cutt” van used in the film. With its outrageous appearance, it’s the kind of vehicle you might hate to love (especially when it comes to maintaining the furry exterior). This tribute is based on a 1997 Ford E-150 van, an update from the 1984 Econoline used in the flick. Located in Augusta, Kansas, this strange transport is available here on eBay for $15,000 OBO.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels played a couple of dim-witted dog groomers in the Dumb and Dumber movie, which must have been a success by scoring $250 million at the box office. In many scenes, they could be seen tooling around in their “Shaggin’ Wagon,” a place of business under the banner Mutt Cutts. The movie’s producers clearly wanted the van to be over-the-top and that might be an understatement. Covered in what looks to be fur, it would be a nightmare to maintain, but that was not likely the goal. Two vans were built for the flick, the other being a Chevy which wasn’t seen on screen.

Replicas of this van turn up from time to time, and the obvious question is “Why?” We don’t know what possessed the seller or someone else to take an E-150 van from 1997 and emulate the movie vehicle. We’re told the original is tucked away at a car museum in Branson, Missouri, so we assume tourists get to see it in person. This replica is powered by a 5.4-liter V8, paired with an automatic transmission.

If you were to buy this thing, what would you do with it? And what is all that fuzzy material made of? It looks nice in the photos, but do you even dare to get it wet? If so, how do you keep it clean? This seems like one of those vehicles that’s for the man (or woman) who literally already has everything else.

Seems like it’s only market value would be to another mobile dog groomer. Something that would have to be stored indoors and only driven in dry weather. Other than that the question is why?

You know what probably chaps the seller’s ass though? He or she probably spent their whole life savings turning their van into a dog. I mean, the alarm alone had to have cost at least $200

Boy, talk about a superfan! That had to have taken a whole lotta time & $$ to pull off. GLWTS.

Sure. You buy a DMC12 Back to the Future car and you are a hero. You buy a Mutt Cutt van and people think there is something wrong with you.

Given the Concours d’Lemons judging criteria: “Celebrating the Oddball, Mundane, and the Truly Awful in the entire automotive world”), the Mutt just might win gold there!

These movie cars pop up once in a while. I was at pick a part, in san fernando valley, ca. The black tank~ like vehicle from Animal House was in their wrecking yard. Still intact.

I believe a authentic movie prop version of this resides, in of all places, Sun Valley Idaho at Sun Valley Auto Club.
