Sometimes, life’s circumstances encroach on the classic car ownership experience and an owner’s pride and joy is consigned to a dusty corner of a shed or garage. Such is the case with this 1989 Camaro IROC-Z. It is a largely unmolested survivor that has hibernated since 2017, but recent work by the seller will leave the buyer with only a few tasks as they strive to return the Camaro to active service. The seller has listed this classic here on eBay in Superior, Wisconsin. Bidding sits at $8,100, and with No Reserve in play, the IROC-Z is only days away from finding a new home.

This Camaro has a long-term ownership history, with the seller purchasing it in 2006. They enjoyed the car, driving it regularly before parking it in 2017. It hasn’t moved since, and they have made the wise decision to move it to a new home before it deteriorates to the point of no return. Its Code 40 White paint generally looks respectable, with only minor imperfections that indicate that the car has been enjoyed as its creators intended. The panels are straight, and I can’t spot any penetrating rust or significant surface corrosion issues. The first owner ordered the Camaro with a glass T-top which is in good order. There is no damaged plastic, and the indications are that spending a few hours with a sponge and a high-quality polish would return the appearance to a tidy survivor standard.

The CD player seems to be the only aftermarket addition to this Camaro’s interior, while the inoperative power hatch release is the only identified functional issue. You can learn a lot about a classic from its interior condition, and this IROC-Z makes a positive impression. The photos are limited, but there appears to be no wear on the cloth upholstered surfaces, and no major shortcomings with the carpet. It also offers enough creature comforts to satisfy most owners, including air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and a power driver’s seat.

Chevrolet had definitely rediscovered its performance mojo by 1989, with this Camaro’s 5.7-liter TPI V8 delivering 230hp and 330 ft/lbs of torque. When combined with a four-speed automatic transmission and power-assisted steering and brakes, it provided an effortless driving experience and the ability to produce a 15-second ¼-mile ET off the showroom floor. This IROC-Z has been inactive since 2017, but the seller installed front brakes and plug wires in 2022. They believe that fitting new tires, a battery, performing a fluid flush and change, and a thorough inspection are all that stand between this classic and the open road.

This 1989 Camaro IROC-Z has only received six bids, although the healthy listing view and Watch List tallies suggest that the situation could change in the auction’s dying minutes. It shows promise as a project candidate, and reviving this classic could be an excellent way to occupy the cold winter months productively. It would undoubtedly be more enjoyable and satisfying than shoveling snow and other tasks that typically occupy that time of year, but are you tempted?
