Eddie Bauer Barn Find: 1989 Ford Bronco

As we well know, Ford Broncos have been hot for more than a minute now. The original Ford Bronco will fetch big money even if completely rotten, so it’s no surprise that the last original Bronco (yes, I know, there’s a yet another modern twist on an old favorite hitting dealer lots as we type) is sought after by square body fans everywhere. The 1989 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer Edition shown here on Facebook Marketplace is said to be a barn find after being discovered hiding out in a longtime owner’s barn for the last five years; it has an asking price of $5,000.

The Eddie Bauer trim is a bit of a big deal among Ford enthusiasts, as these were generally more limited in production and provided some meaningful cosmetic improvements. Now, there are some of you that don’t get excited over cosmetic upgrades and I don’t blame you; however, the Eddie Bauer trim was at least a decent improvement. The seller’s truck is an older model, and the instrument binnacle is the biggest giveaway as to the production year owing to the fact that the later Broncos looked much more modern inside with only a mild refresh. The seller’s truck looks quite clean inside despite being parked for several years.

The truck went into storage partially because it was damaged by sitting outside. A tree fell on it and damaged the rear corner of the hardtop, along with smashing out the back glass. I’m sure plenty of spares are out there, and you may even get lucky with a local glass repair specialist having one in stock. The top damage is harder to assess, as this photo shows. What exactly happened to the hard top? Is this the result of a temporary repair or is this what an OEM hardtop looks like when a tree whacks it? Hard to say – but at least the spare tire cover is in mint condition.

Here’s that cool Eddie Baurer trim baked into the cloth buckets – pretty sharp, right? Not the most exciting trim pattern we’ve seen, but it does give the Bronco an adventurist mindset, reminding occupants they’ve bought a machine capable of combining luxury with impressive off-the-beaten-path abilities. The seller notes it will keep going over hill and dale thanks to its low-mileage replacement V8 engine that has just over 50,000 miles on it and was dropped in when the Bronco had 100K or so on the clock. The seller recommends dropping the gas tank and cleaning it out or replacing it and also swapping in a new fuel pump before hitting the open road, which suggests there’s some gunk in the tank that needs to be removed. Still, this looks like a worthy project that will only need minor sorting to increase its value almost immediately.

Thanks Jeff. I always thought the various Eddie Bauer models of this era were particularly well-done. The tan two-tone looked great; I particularly liked it against green or dark blue. And the tan interiors were nicely trimmed. This looks like a good example which doesn’t need too much work. Given that all things Bronco are hot in the market, I suspect it will find a new home.

“Literally,” read the first sentence of the ad….

This one looks like it still has some life left in it and the upholstery isn’t totally trashed. Like Bob noted, I’ve always liked the Eddie Bauer trucks – loved them new – love them now. Find a hardtop and keep on enjoying it.

I had a 91 Bronco, not an EB but 5.0 basic auto. It was fun (when I wasn’t working on it lol). It was like driving a tank. You were higher than everyone around you. Bought it with a check engine light on and sold it with a check engine light on lol
