Ex-Fire Truck: 1991 Dodge Power Ram 150 4×4

This is one of those “WOW” vehicles again, there have been many of them lately it seems like. How this truck lasted for three-and-a-half decades, ran up 141,000 miles, and still looks almost like new is amazing. The seller has this ex-Washington State fire department pickup, a 1991 Dodge Power Ram 150 short bed 4×4, listed here on eBay in gorgeous Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The current bid is $6,025, but the reserve isn’t met, and thanks to T.J. for the red hot tip!

What a beautiful truck, it goes to show what happens when a person, company, or agency, a government agency in this case, keeps up on maintenance and repairs and what that does for longevity. And the seller’s photos are so perfect they almost make me weep like a child. We rarely see photos like this from most listings here on Barn Finds, it’s a breath of fresh air. Very well done, seller! Moving a vehicle to have the sun shining on all sides for photos rather than just parking it once and taking photos of shadows? I may need a moment… To make it even better, they say there was a sprinkler head on the hood in place of the Dodge Ram ornament and that goes with the sale. That would go back on within the first ten minutes if I owned this truck. The door decals can be removed, but unless your area doesn’t allow such things, I’d leave them as is. This truck is a no-brainer for car show duties.

I can think of only one thing I’d like this truck to have, and we’ll see that in a minute; otherwise, this thing is perfect, in my opinion. And check out the Subaru BRAT-like seats in the back! The seller says, “…stainless fire crew jump seat is located in the bed as well as interior bed side mounted shovels.” I love it. I’m sure if an insurance company knew about those seats, they may have an issue, but until then, I’d leave them. This is a late first-generation Ram pickup as two years later, Dodge would come out with the “big rig” look for their pickups that’s still around today.

I don’t see anything on the exterior that raises even a slight eyebrow, as far as rust, dings, dents, paint issues or anything. The seller says it’s mostly original paint other than a few normal touchups over the decades. They have included several underside photos. As expected, the interior looks equally nice, maintained, not all cracked and full of trash and all dirty as sometimes happens in photos of vehicles for sale. There’s a CB radio and the seller says there are switches related to its former life at the fire department, including a switch for an under-hood horn and a yellow roof-mounted service light that comes with the sale. A four-speed manual would bring this truck over the top, but there’s nothing wrong with putting it in D and going on with your business.

The engine is Dodge’s 318-cu.in. OHV fuel-injected V8 with factory air-conditioning that blows cool, so it needs a recharge. It sends power through a four-speed automatic to all four wheels when needed and even the engine compartment looks like it’s been detailed for the photos. This truck just keeps getting better and better. It’s said to run perfectly and it would be hard to find a nicer one. Any thoughts on this former fire department Power Ram?

This is the first short bed Chief’s truck I’ve ever seen.
They’ve always been long beds,so you can haul lots of
    equipment,used fire hose,etc.
And the first thing departments usually do when selling
equipment is to remove any department logos.
Those logos on the doors are disgusting
and generic. Why would you put them on there?

Very nice presentation. But I believe I see a cracked frame just in front of one of the rear spring mounts.

JohnfromSC and Stan, I believe that’s just a layer of “goop” that’s fallen off so it looks cracked, but it’s just the edge of that layer of grease?

Scotty, you may call that grease, but I’d like to think of it as a petroleum based frame rust preventative coating……..
        Applied over time…….
        Never mind….
        That’s way too hard……
        Ok, you win…. Grease…..
Reminds me of one of my favorite used car salesman lines…..
        Oil leak???? What oil leak????
That’s just sweat dripping from all that horsepower!!!

Those bed mounted seats would be perfect for tailgating before a Kansas City Chiefs game.

Looks like undercoating peeling off. No big deal.

Good eye guys. Just a chunk. What a sweet little 4wd. Preventive maintenance and care on display bigtime.

It might be original factory color, but it’s definitely a repaint (note red overspray in a couple areas.) One shock is one side coated red. Passenger front wheel well is red behind the tire (black plastic wheel well liner). There are a couple more tell tale signs. That being said it’s a really nice truck, With 141K, I think they are approaching the price I would pay….. but who knows?
