There’s something cool about a big American station wagon, especially ones with a bit of a sportiness to it. This Plymouth Fury is a Sport Suburban 6 passenger Station Wagon, which means it’s packing a 440 Super Commando V8, a 727 transmission and the Sure-Grip rear end! With a few upgrades, this could be one heck of a sleeper. Reader Paul L has been asked by the owner to help find a new home for it, so if you’d love to give this Mopar Wagon a good home, be sure to message him via the form below! The car is currently located in Pacifica, California with a $6,000 asking price.
What Makes This Vehicle Special? This is an all original California Black Plate car. Equipped with the super commando 440 cid motor, 727 three-speed automatic, 8 3/4 Sure-Grip rear end. Factory power disc brakes power steering air conditioning power rear window roof rack and tow package.
Describe The Body Condition: Body is straight, paint is dull. Very little rust. Some rot lower drivers rear 1/4. Some bubbling corner of door and fender. Floors, rockers, roof all good. Missing a sill plate for the driver’s side door. Missing stock radio. New antenna.
Describe The Interior Condition: Dash lights and gauges not working. Interior needs some work. Seats could use a recover and headliner needs redoing. Comes with new black carpet kit and kick panels. Glass is good, windows go up and down, doors shut nice.
Describe The Mechanical Condition: The engine fires right up and idles nice. No smoke. Great oil pressure. Holley intake and carb, headers, dual exhaust. Transmission shifts well. Brakes good. Decent tires. Runs and drives but will need a little to make a daily driver.
What’s The Car’s History? I don’t know much history on the car. The owner has fallen ill and I was asked to help find a good home for it. I know that they didn’t make to many of these with the options this one has. This wagon would make a great tow/push vehicle for that early Mopar drag or race car. Easy Super Bee wagon? Price $6,000. Willing to work with overseas buyers. I have a lot more pics. Please message and I will send them to you.
Happy Hunting!
Paul L
We have to say, this Wagon looks like a great survivor and could really be a fun machine to have. The 440 Super Commando is a beast of an engine and was rated at 375 horsepower, but it’s also pulling around a lot of car here. While you could technically upgrade the engine and make this into a speed demon, this car looks to be fairly original and should probably be restored and preserved. Honestly, how many Fury Sport Wagons can there still be on the road?
Our special thanks to Paul and the owner for listing this Mopar wagon with us. If you have a survivor that you’d like to sell with us, you can list it with us <a href=”https://barnfinds.com/ sell/”>here on <em>Barn Finds</em></a>!
Oh baby!! I think I’m in love!! This thing wouldn’t run out of uses around
my house. I’d use it as it is while I fix the small stuff. Could see my
family and I cruising it at Old Town on weekends. Yeah, my SIL will
say it uses too much gas but I like it. And if she keeps her foot out of
it, gas mileage should be sustainable within reasonable limits. Why
spend 60K on an SUV when you could have this really nice wagon
instead?
Neat car with some nice options, definitely worth restoring.
Wagon to follow
Daily 😂👍👀😕
Gosh I wish I had one to drive to salvage yards and hone desperate 😏
Want The Family vehicle now .
Nothing like family trickster to go t
o home depot or grocers. It can also haul flowers for weddings and funerals 👍
Selling the Shelby to get a cool car 😂
I hope to see this on Wagon Masters .com
Hmm i love it! But the 440 has me curious. The color of it looks to be the later darker blue so maybe its been pulled out before?? A quick look at the ID stamp would give up if the right year block or not and some later 70’s block.
Not a MOPAR expert by any means, but that also appears to be a later model air cleaner. I am thinking that this car wasn’t born with a 440.
I’m with you guys, I don’t think that’s the original engine. The front seat and rear seat and door panels are all mismatched, so it’s fair to assume other things have been swapped. That said, this is a very cool car at a really reasonable asking price. I’m curious whether there is a displacement number on that little chrome hood ornament, if so, I’ll bet it says 318 or 383.
Pacifica is right on the ocean and is blanketed for much of the year in a thick coat of ground level fog. Cars from that city will often rust as if they were dipped in a salt water solution. Anyone interested in this car should do a thorough inspection prior to purchase.
Would love to drive this car as my daily driver!!! Just a little bit out of my price range, being that it would definitely need some performance upgrades, Mainly brakes, and the gages fixed. That said, if I were in that area I would HAVE TO take a look at it! What a sweet ride.
Good advice when you are purchasing anything that is 50 years old Steve R.
I like it. The absence of Chrome trim on the car makes it stand out, would drive with existing blue pain. Mopar made some beauties. Good inspection goes without saying. Could have been used for towing by virtue of the trailer hitch. Cheap buy in, I’m thinking!
Good luck to the new owner!
Looks like a base model fury one to me
Looks to be a Fury Suburban (Fury II) or a Fury Custom Suburban (Fury III) definitely not a Sport Suburban (Sport Fury) no woodgrain.
Had one in college. Could drop the back seat and put an eight foot Christmas tree in and shut the tailgate!
Once again,I live on the wrong coast. I’d be all over this if it was closer.sweet ride!
Read Steve R and Chebby. They have it right. This car was probably a 318 or a 383 engine. And the Interior is mismatched which could be the result of buying replacement interiors in pieces, leaving some original pieces intact. Not sure. I’ve had some late 60s Chrysler Products and the dashboards are notoriously junk. So best guess is you’ll either have to pull the dash or at least rewire to wake it up. Let’s hope for dead fuses. Good luck and buy it. They are great cars aside from the imperfections.
I never actually thought of a station wagon as “sport” but I guess it’s the 440…Impressive
As I have said in the past no one should advertise a Mopar without posting the fender tag.
I doubt if this was a Sport Fury. Looks like engine and Sport Fury decals were transferred on to this car.
I have never seen a Sport Fury wagon.
There was a Sport Suburban wagon.
This one begs a lot more inspection.
Also what is the VIN ?
Base or not, if I didn’t already have my Wagon of my dreams. LTD Station Wagon. Sweet dreams there.
Very uncommon for a station wagon to have the nameplate “sport” and with a 440?? something’s funny with this car…
My grandfather used to drive one of these when he worked for the Boston Edison before he retired. His might have been a 67, with a six banger and a three on the tree.
That is a base Suburban…the Sport had fake wood paneling on the sides.
Swoon for the boat!
Sport Fury wagon? You gotta be kiddin right! Ok I got one for ya, How about a 10,400 mi.71 GTX 440-6 pack, original owner car,who checked the boxes he wanted, and is one of three who ordered the gold car on the brochure. Saw it today, owned by my bud. Super Bee wagon? What! Plymouth never made a super bee,and a 68 fury, doesn’t resemble any mopar B-body,Plymouth or Dodge.
Why do people keep saying Sport Fury Wagon. The title says Fury SPORT wagon, not the other way around.
Say it any way you want, Plymouth made a Fury wagon 1,11,111. The Sport Fury, was a 2 dr.hdtp.
That is not the point. You and another poster called it a Sport Fury Wagon, when that is not what it was called or referred to.
