Factory Air Drop Top: 1969 Chevelle Malibu

Large displacement and big power cars will always be king, but there is something to be said about nicely equipped small displacement American muscle era machines. Featuring two doors, a convertible top, and a V8 with factory air conditioning, this ’69 Chevelle Malibu would be a sweet ride after restoration. After a lifetime together, the original owner is looking to pass on this Chevy for $12,500. Check it out here on eBay out of Duluth, Georgia.

Last on the road in 1988, it is unclear what the current state of the drive-train might be. The 307 is a simple and reliable enough V8 but the options are what really make this convertible shine. Power brakes, air conditioning, floor mounted auto shifter, and a power top! Based on the car’s overall appearance I would assume that any and all mechanical and electrical systems will need to be restored or rebuilt. Once renovated, this Chevy would be an awesome cruiser with a lot of comforts and fair gas mileage.

Taking a look at the interior reveals what really needs to happen with this Chevelle. Although the seller states that the car has spent several months uncovered, I would guess that in this cars past that it was left exposed to the elements as well. The interior will need to be completely resourced and rebuilt. The largest concern with this project is the immensely rusty floors.

Although new floors are in this Chevy’s future, the exterior appears to be in rather fair condition. Granted there is rot to be found on the exterior, but it seems minimal in comparison to the floors. If the inner rockers are in fair shape this may not be too bad of a project to tackle. The body work appears to be quite straight, but the quarters and rockers have some minimal rot. Although this may not be a fire breathing muscle machine, I feel that it is still a very worthy restoration effort that would truly be a joy to drive. Would you take a chance on this convertible?

Isn’t outside storage a car killer, take the same car store it inside and it’s a whole differant ball game. The owner has let this once beautiful car go to total $h!t and now he wantS $12k for it. I have never really liked ( in this case ) rag tops I’d like it a lot more if it were a hard top, it would be in better shape too. I had a freind back in high school that had one of these same engine with a five speed munchi what a rocket ship that thing was, sadly he drove it into the ground and its long gone. This poor old thing is also long gone, I’m not even sure if this a parts car, you’d really have to want a chevelle rag top to want to take this on. JMHO.

$12K for a rust bucket like this? Keep dreaming! I would be shocked to see it sell at that price. That is just greed, very sad. Hub caps are not original btw.

Yep, it’s a rust bucket…..Over priced like all the rusty Mopars I’ve seen lately.

Indeed! That’s been uncovered for a lot longer than a “few months.”

It’s maybe a $1500. piece if what remains is all there. Frankly I’d wait for a decent starter car rather than this.

You’re being too kind. It’s not even worth that! People have zero clue what they have, and its value. The owner of this garbage took lousy care of a car that was next to worthless when it was new, and now thinks they can clean up on some fool. I doubt they get any interest AT ALL for an unpopular car, that has less than nothing to offer.

Frankly, the seller is insulting potential buyers by not even having the decency of cleaning the trash out of the interior. The next insult is the price.

Amazing how some folks establish their notion of value.

I’d be certain that this is a typo. Certainly the price is $1,250.

Another perfect example of “I’m NEVER selling it, it’s my dream car and I’m going to fix it someday”. Until a buyer wears him/her out enough, they get too old, or die. Then the new owner realizes the absolute load of crap they bought and tries to sell their new dream for way too much.

Sad, My brother had one of these back in 1974 and he totally redid it and put in a 327 with upwards of 350 horsepower it was a beautiful car. Seeing cars in this condition and asking those kind of prices sickens me

Nobody has an interest in the least powerful, least appealing, and most worthless model.

This convertible would have made daily driving chores a bit nicer as it was optioned, that’s about it. Guy could order a new ’69 Chevelle SS 396 or maybe he was rich and got hold of a 427 powered dealer special. Those were the only Chevelle’s that were considered muscular. I only mention that because of the first paragraph in the write up. Terrible how some people let their pride and joy turn into such waste.

Sadly I can’t personally attack someone on here but it looks like somebody has changed their name from Richard.

Converts of all makes are rare – like has been said numerous times – these were just clunkers after about 10 years. Thankfully it is still around to give up it’s rare convert only parts to a rust free shell. They were doing this to early ‘Stangs before the shells came out.

If this car was in Cali it would have been loooong gone !!!

The entire ‘muscle car’ market is ruined by ridiculous prices. The cars we drove in high school, back in the 80’s just aren’t worth the coin. It should be fun to restore an old Nova and drive the rubber of it, not require big investment to store in a garage.

That hull is only worth the amount of change or goodies you may find under the seats!!! Good chance there may be something there since he can’t even take the time to clean the crap out of it.
