Factory Limo: 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy Five

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Still looking as classy and luxurious as it did almost 40 years ago is this 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Limousine, and with just 53,000 miles of use, this one’s probably still ready to chauffeur its occupants just about anywhere.  There’s nothing quite like exiting from the rear of a limo to let business clients, romantic interests, or just about anyone else know you’ve arrived in style, and as they say, first impressions are everything.  Currently located in Naples, this one’s been in Florida most of its life, and can be found here on eBay.  So far, 33 offers have only taken the high bid to $3,300, but I’ve got a feeling that this amount will continue increasing before the gavel drops here.

Although these were marketed and sold by Cadillac, I noticed online that a couple of message boards mention that the stretch was subcontracted to a coach company called Hess & Eisenhart.  If any of our readers can confirm or deny that, we’d love to hear from you.  Not only does the workmanship appear excellent here, but the condition remains near immaculate outside, with the seller believing that the paint is original.  It’s said to have been kept inside a garage, with most of the use consisting of trips to church, car shows, parades, and dinner outings.

This one’s also been treated well inside, with the front, rear, and center jump-seats still appearing to be in fine shape.  Some limos are longer, but this Fleetwood seems to be a good size for more practical travel, not requiring most of a row of parking places or having to plan a turn several blocks in advance.  The dash, headliner, door panels, and trim are all said to be free from any major wear, with all of the electronics stated as functioning.

Under the hood is a Cadillac’s High Technology V8 of the HT 4100 variety, with the seller describing its operation as powerful, smooth, and quiet, plus the transmission is said to still be shifting properly.  A real positive is that most limos haven’t seen a lot of long-distance driving, and with such low mileage here, this one’s probably got some reliable life ready for the next owner to enjoy.  Is this 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Seventy Five Limousine one you’d be interested in adding to your fleet?

I saw an ’80s Honda Accord limousine on Instagram today. I feel like this is its ’80s American counterpart

I can’t get over the condition of this one. Most often they’re too big to store inside, and then succumb to the elements. But not this one. I was looking at it on Fast Finds and I just can’t get over how beautiful the condition is. Someone is getting a sweet deal here if bought right. Thank you for writing this up Mike. I enjoyed it.

I know these limos were subcontracted out when Cadillac went mostly front wheel drive in 1985 MY. Prior to that, Cadillac built them in house.

Few limos were built inhouse at Cadillac.

Prior to 1984, Fisher Body Plant 21 produced limo bodies for Cadillac. They were trucked over to Clark Street to be trimmed out.

I like it. I’d be curious to park it next to a full size Fleetwood Brougham of same year to compare the lenght.

This Cadillac looks beautiful. It’s still manages to a few looks as is in good condition. Cadillac used to make cars that people looked at the pool. They used to be the standard in the world. They have certainly fallen a the long ways now. They make a couple of euro trash, automobiles, and a bunch of SUVs. When I do notice went on the streets, I see no prestige. Cadillac has become irrelevant. They did to them selves.

I think the engine was pretty well sorted out by that time, but that 440T4 transaxle was still in its disaster stage then. I wonder how many remans it’s had so far?

The body panels suggest this was an in-house Fisher Body build; the D pillar appears to be bone stock Coupe DeVille sheet metal, while the front doors & B pillar appear to be standard Sedan DeVille fare. It doesn’t appear to be the usual “cut a sedan in half and add middle” coachbuild technique.

This is exactly the way Chrysler built their limos, with sedan front doors & B pillar with proprietary rear doors, & sheet metal mating to a coupe rear end.

All 1985-1987 Limousines were built by Hess & Eisenhardt, using as many factory components as possible. The cars started out as Fleetwood coupes, which explains the resemblance to those cars. The front doors and B-pillar, as you noted, are from the Fleetwood sedan. Rear doors are modified coupe doors. It was really very clever. The only unique stampings were the roof and floor extensions and whatever was necessary to modify the coupe doors. If you look closely, you’ll see that the ’77-’84 Limos were built much the same way, but from the ground up, as opposed to the cut-and-paste ’85-’87 Limos.

Beautiful condition. My last Cadillac was a 92 Eldorado that I bought on ebay from an estate in Florida, Low miles and looked amazing. I drove it home to NY with no problems. It had the 4.9 engine. I drove it until the temp plate ran out and then stored it as the winter was coming. In the spring, the car body was still beautiful, however the motor then developed many problems. I took it to our Cadillac dealer and many thousands of $$$ later it ran well. I drove it summers for a few years and then sold it. The buyer is a collector and lives close by. He still has it (9 years later) and I see him drive it when the weather is nice.

Like the Chrysler Kcar based Executive Limousine, this is IMO a far cry from what a Limousine should be. It does carry traditional Cadillac styling cues, and at least is much more appropriate for formal occasions than today’s Boxy SUVS masquerading as Limousines. BTW, Angel, I’m still here and replied on the 78 Town Car.

I owned a 1998 Stretch DeVille “Eureka” a few years back. The Northstar engine got the re-stud and reseal treatment. Great running car, surprising nimble and agile. With only 50k miles, it was in super condition.
