The story behind this Avanti is an unfortunate one. It was purchased so that the owner could restore it with his father who owned a similar car. He figured it would be fun to scour the country for Studebaker parts together and that the time spent exchanging restoration tips would be well spent. Unfortunately, his father passed away before that could happen. Now he is going to restore his father’s car and sell this one to the highest bidder here on eBay. It does run and is equipped with a four-speed so it is worth a look. We wish the owner the best of luck with the sale and the restoration of this father’s car. Thanks goes to Jim S. for the submission.

This is excellent! A group of my fellow students and myself have been restoring a 63 R1 for the last 8 months ourselves, they’re extremely cool cars!
every studebaker is worth saving!!!!
Must be fun for the driver looking down that asymmetrical hood
Sure looks very good from here!
My third grade teacher, Miss Carlson, pulled up in one of these in 1964 and from then on I thought she was the coolest woman in the world. Still do.
Collectible Automobile did an article a few years back on the design process of the Avanti, really fascinating. Here in NJ I know a man with two Avanti’s in his barn that his father had bought for he and his brother and he swears he will never part with them. If I ever get the opportunity to see them I’ll try to get a pic.
Loooooove Collectible Automobile. Can’t believe the access they get to studio shots. Raymond Loewy anticipated the design of this with his own BMW 507.

Have loved these since I saw the first one as a kid. The local Olds dealer carried Studebakers and they had a gold one in stock. Made my dad drive me by there to look at it everytime we were near by. Broke my heart when we drive by one day and it was gone.
20 years later I was working at that Olds store. An “old timer” was there and remembered that Avanti. 2 guys came in and bought it, cash money. Left the car they were driving behind. Several hours later the FBI showed up. Seems they buyers had just robbed a bank in OKC and hade paid for the car with stolen money. The Feds took all the cash from the dealer and left. They finally found the Avanti in Las Vegas.
I would love to have one someday.
Its good that the hog troughs are in good shape.
My wife and I went to the national Studebaker museum yesterday in Southbend Indiana. Great place. Its well worth thr trip if you have the chance to go.
