Field Find: 1970 Chevrolet Camaro SS RS

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Chevrolet sold 700,000 Camaro “pony cars” in its first three years on the market (1967-69). So, an all-new design was on the schedule for 1970. Production delays resulted in the cars arriving in showrooms late by five months, contributing to a 50% drop over the extended 1969 production run. The seller has a rough ’70 Camaro that is both a Super Sport and a Rally Sport, which may have comprised 15% of sales. Located in the middle of nowhere near Salem, Oregon, this rough project can be yours here on craigslist for $5,500.

The seller only provides two photos, which is not the best way to sell an automobile. Too much is left to the imagination and leads you to assume the worst. We’re told the machine is numbers-matching, but does it have a 350 cubic inch V8 or a mighty 396? But it does use a manual transmission (4-speed?) and the car quit running at 50,000 (or 150,000) miles. We agree with the seller that it’s “beat up,” and he/she says the car has a story (so what is it?). If you want to take a crack at restoring this once hot Camaro, you’ll do it without a title from the seller.

That would have been sharp back in the day. With vanity plates, it was someone’s pride & joy.

I’d enjoy hearing the back story.

Vanity plates, and in this sad of state? Stolen and stashed in the woods? Who does this?

What a great car this would be restored, too bad it was left to rot.

XD XD XD I had a brand new 96 black Impala SS years ago that my soon to be ex scratched the schytte out of with her keys in the last dying days of our marriage. She blamed it on the kids, but no, it wasn’t the kids. A pure psycho.

@SteveDouglas, I bought an AAR Cuda, totally matching numbers and original sheet metal 10 years ago from a guy that suffered just like you. In his case, he got awarded the house and kids. So on her way out the now ex wife keyed the entire passenger side of the AAR, right through the strobe graphics to bare metal, then took a baseball bat to the driver side door. I have since totally restored the car. Fun story now but not for him then.

No title? No back window, some interesting back story involving people whose lives you may not want to hear about? 2 whole pictures? $5,500? As beaten up as if Sean Combs owned it?

Another case of a misplaced decimal point. Sheesh…
