Final Year Find: 1983 Chrysler Cordoba Survivor

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Chrysler Cordoba might be best known for its 1970s-era advertising campaign with Ricardo Montalbán, but this final-year 1983 example represents the last hurrah of Chrysler’s once-stylish personal luxury coupe. Found garage-stored since 1999 with just 56,915 miles, this second-gen Cordoba is listed here on craigslist out of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Thanks goes to Tony Primo for the tip!

This car is said to be a true barn (or rather, garage) find, tucked away for over two decades and untouched since. It wears its original white paint with a blue landau roof and matching blue cloth interior—classic early ’80s color combinations that still turn heads today. Under the hood is Chrysler’s tried-and-true 318 cubic inch (5.2L) V8, paired to an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The seller notes that it hasn’t been started, so you’ll want to bring a trailer and a plan for revival.

The interior appears to be in excellent condition, with plush blue cloth seats, power windows, cruise control, intermittent wipers, remote mirror adjustment, and even Chrysler’s “Quartz Lock Precision Series” AM/FM stereo and Chronometer dash clock. While there’s no Corinthian leather here, it still delivers peak ‘80s Mopar luxury.

Being a final-year model, this 1983 Cordoba is a bit of a rarity, just 13,471 were built, and far fewer have survived in this kind of condition. Features like the opera lamps, Hella Halogen “Hellavision” headlights, and clean original trim suggest it was well cared for before its long hibernation. The seller claims to be the personal owner and stored it in a commercial garage since the late ’90s.

There’s no word yet on mechanical condition, but the car reportedly rolls and presents well. Given the long storage, it will likely need a full go-through: fluids, fuel system, brakes, belts, tires, and the usual revival suspects. But for the right Mopar enthusiast, this could be a worthwhile preservation project, or an excellent platform for a mild restomod.

Would you restore this final-year Cordoba to ‘80s showroom glory, or clean it up and drive it as-is?

Its a beauty, i’m guessing a.few phone calls will locate new fillers or someone whom can fix them up. A week end or so of shampoo’s, waxes and spray cans will do wonders in the engine bay and interior and exterior. A bit or research will get a set of oem alloys for the era and the proper whitewalls and off to cars and coffee. hope it finds a nice home to be cared for

Lovely looking car. Although I was way too young at the time to drive a car, I remember cars like this. I find it the best looking Cordoba offered.

      $6900 obo. Rather high, I think, for a non-running 1983 anything.

If it runs and drives safely as it is, I’d pay for it, fire it up, and go! 🙂

I love a car where the trunk doesn’t go all the way down to the bumper.
Why does the gov’t have to stick it’s nose into everyone’s business?

Right in my backyard. As clean as it looks, living in MA I know what winters do here. I’d still want to see complete underside photos. If this thing hasn’t been started in 26 years there’s probably quite a list of stuff that’s going to need some attention. I don’t take anything at face value. Until you’ve seen it in person and inspected it it’s still a big ?. Think the price is a bit optimistic for a non running 83′ Cordoba, but considering the over valued sales I see on BaT it wouldn’t shock me to see it sell lol.

A Hellcat drivetrain conversion would be my first choice.
