First Gen Fun: 1966 Ford Bronco

You’ve undoubtedly seen a lot of Broncos popping up for sale lately.  With Ford announcing the return of the iconic SUV for the 2020 model year, there seems to be a resurgence in their popularity.  While the new Bronco will likely follow the trend of manufacturers resurrecting retro-styled models, a genuine first-generation barn find is hard to beat.  This 1966 can be found here on Cars-on-Line with an asking price of $4,500.  You’ll have to do a bit of traveling to see this one in person, it is located in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada.

There isn’t a lot of information in the ad regarding this vehicle.  It does say that it was stored in a barn for 25 years.  It’s always refreshing to see the quarter panels on these first generation Broncos uncut.  These were capable 4×4’s from the factory, but due to the shorter rear wheel openings there were limitations on how large of a tire you could install.  A lot of owners solved this problem by trimming the rear openings.

The interior looks fairly stock and untouched.  There is no photo of the engine compartment, but the ad does state it has the 170 cubic inch inline 6 with three speed transmission.  First gen. Broncos make great projects and they are supported fairly well by the aftermarket.  You can find quality reproduction parts and there are even new old stock parts that are still out there.

It’s clear there’s been some attempt at rust repair or prevention at some point.  The seller doesn’t indicate if it was done before or after the quarter-century barn storage.  Either way, this Bronco looks like it is in pretty good shape and will make a great project for someone.

    Something’s amiss with that tailgate.

I’m guessing that’s where it had a spare tire mount and it just plain rusted out/off…

Awesome looking Bronco! I’ve always loved this generation Ford Bronco. I’ve never owned, nor have I driven one. But I’ve always found them more attractive than the one that came around 1978. While I like its larger size, I didn’t find the second gen as attractive as this.

(“Hi!” 2 the 3 guys I recognize from ‘the bronk world’).
some things tell me it’s a ’66, some not.
Is there a ‘retainer’ at the top of windshield to accept the clip on the hood, etc. 4 pic make it tough to ID positively.
The lift gate & tail gait seem ajar & a strap hangs out. Could that B due to body damage Todd?
BTW: even tho a ’70 bronk owner I like the ’73 -’79 F series above any other truck ‘look’ ever, of which the ’78/9 is a ‘copy’. If U get 1 I’ll trade ya mine GCNS.

It looks like some sort of body damage there, Chad. The tailgate is definitely tweaked.
