Flared and Forgotten: 1968 Chevy Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette comes with a variety of modifications that the seller assumes happened early in its life, considering he believes the indicated mileage of just 28,000 is accurate. The main reason he suspects is not only due to the paper trail but also because of the condition of the interior, which does look surprisingly fresh. Find this flared ‘Vette here on craigslist in Boston for $7K.

The seller says the recent arrival of a Porsche 911 project is forcing this one out of the garage, which seemingly has been a roller with no motor for decades. The previous owner apparently parked the car in order to add the body enhancements you see here, like the big-time fender flares and squared-off headlights. Impressively, the seller claims he still has the pieces of bodywork that were removed to integrate the fender extensions.

However, once those modifications were done, the previous owner seemingly lost interest in the project, at which point it began its long sleep in a barn on the property. How the current seller came into owning the car is unknown, but he points to this being a desirable first-year C3 that isn’t rusty underneath – which may explain his motivation for picking it up in the first place. The interior does look incredibly good for the age, helping support the low-mileage claims.

The original engine is stuck but will come with the sale, and it’s nothing exotic – just a standard 327/300HP. The seller is including a rebuilt 327/350HP with the sale price from a 1967 Corvette. Interestingly, this Corvette was originally equipped with the optional 3-speed automatic, but it was swapped to a manual at some point in its past. Does the condition of the interior convince you that this is a 28,000 mile project-grade C3? Thanks to Barn Finds reader AMXBrian for the find.

I’d forget it too if it had flares.

There’s no reason to modify the body of a 60’s Vette!! They got it right the first time!

Maybe when the original owner got it back he took one look at and realized ” that was a mistake”, sadly shook his head and said to h- ll with it. 😆

The previous owner didn’t lose interest, he was rightfully ashamed. Hopefully it can be repaired to it’s proper shape.

128k miles for sure, and to boot a dang mess he has made of it: blown engine, ‘wide body’ modifications, no telling what else is awry.

A shame, but this is now a parts car at best.

In thirty years kindig and foose cars will be looked upon as just as tacky as the mods on this butchered corvette.

Comparing a Kindig or Foose build to this….. Really?

I get your point, but your analogy is not helping make that point very well.

This is a guy in his garage hacking a seemingly desirable car and abandoning it.

The mods were started in 1973, it was just a used Vette nothing special at that time.
