Found! Stash of Fat Fender Ford Pickups

This collection of 1955 and ’56 Ford pickups are located in Merced, California. They can be found here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $2,800. Unfortunately, none of them have titles, but they appear to be a pretty decent group of pickups. The ad doesn’t state if they all have to be sold together. Check out the rest of the photos and see what you think.

The Ford trucks of the mid-1950’s are nicknamed “fat-fenders” for obvious reasons. It appears that these trucks are fairly dry and free of severe rust. I’m betting that out of these four trucks, one good truck could be built. It may take an aftermarket chassis, but one good grille, set of fenders, a cab and pickup bed should be able to be pieced together from what’s here.

This truck has the best looking front end out of the group. The grille and hood ornament are intact although the grille is missing the V8 logo.

The last truck in the row is a little bit of a mystery. Looking at the front half, you would think this is a rare 4×4 version. However, the back half is very low and appears to have hot-rod style wheels and tires. A quick peek at the front axle would tell the story. So what do you think of this collection? Could you make one good truck out of this quartet?

I would think if you had one running but rusty here in the Midwest these would make nice donor trucks for body parts but transportation would be costly unless the owner would part out certain pieces.

It’s interesting that for ’56 having that one year only with its wrap-around windshield, it’s the most common of the Effies. Even in my hometown, back in the day, there were a lot of ’56 trucks in all sizes but the years previous were rare. My friend had a ’53 and a farmer up the road had a ’53 F350 tonner. But that was all the ’53 models. ’54 & ’55 models were more numerous but only in 3-ton. ’56 came out and pickups were all over the place. Then the next style dropped off again.

Anyways, I look at this and say that you could probably outfit (2) with needed body parts. Driveline is anyone’s guess. Usually, when it comes to powertrain, the same parts are worn out on all of them. Actually a good deal for the whole load…

Having trouble finding a 55 in the group, suppose an early one could be titled 1955, if I only had a cab and front clip here…..

They are all 56 pick P/U’s, even if one had a 55 title. I have a 53 now and have had 3 others. I thought it was $2800 for all four, and that’s too much. I just bought a hood ,2 front fenders and a front valance and both radiator supports for $750 , used, but very usable, with a minimum of body work. I could have bought it all new reproduction, for under $2500. Please don’t ask, why I bought those parts, it is still too fresh to talk about ,without showing any emotion.

The last photo with the truck with the oversized front tires isn’t a 4×4. I see a 2wd hub poking through the center of the oversized “wagon spoke” wheels. The ad states he is starting the auction is $2,800 EACH. $2800 for all four would be a stretch, given the trucks “book ending” this collection appear to have suffered fairly significant fire damage. I find it funny that this collection is described as a “stash”. Speaking of “stash, they must grow some good weed around Merced…

They are ALL ’56 pickups, no ’55’s among them!
