Fresh 350: 1970 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Chevrolet produced 6,648 Corvette Convertibles in 1970, and we’ve seen a few over the years at Barn Finds. This car could be better than most because it has many attributes that some will find impossible to resist. Not only does it present nicely, but it is as solid as the day it was built. It features a comprehensively refreshed drivetrain, but the icing on the cake could be the seller’s decision to list it with No Reserve. The Corvette is listed here on eBay in Miami, Florida. Bidding has scorched to $13,600 with time remaining on the “winner-takes-all” auction.

There’s a bit to unpack with this Corvette, but it appears to lack significant bad news. Its Daytona Yellow shines impressively, coating fiberglass with no apparent stress cracks or other problems. The supplied photos support the seller’s claim about tight and consistent gaps, although we must trust them when they say the frame is solid. Their eBay feedback is almost exclusively positive, suggesting they aren’t in the habit of misrepresenting their vehicles. The Beige soft-top looks tight and free from damage, while the seller includes a factory hardtop for those seeking all-weather protection. The trim and glass are very acceptable if this car is considered a high-end driver-quality vehicle. The Convertible rolls on its factory Rally wheels wrapped in tires from the fine folk at BF Goodrich.

A perfectionist may find faults with this Corvette’s interior, but it has it all for those seeking a tidy driver. The Saddle leather seatcovers have wrinkles that are part of this material’s character, but there’s no wear or physical damage. The remaining upholstered surfaces haven’t succumbed to wear or UV damage, and even the prone areas of the console near the shifter look good. The wheel rim looks odd, but I’m unsure whether it is dirt or permanent stains. The dash is excellent, the gauges look crisp, and the carpet looks virtually new. The previous owner added an aftermarket shifter, and there’s a retro-look stereo to provide tunes on the move.

If the news with this Corvette has been positive so far, I hope you’re prepared for more. Lifting the hood reveals a 350ci V8, although it is unclear whether it is numbers-matching. There are also no clues about its specifications, with the aftermarket ignition system and headers muddying the water. The buyer should have at least 300hp at their disposal if it is the ZQ3, although more than 28% of buyers spent the extra $158.00 to experience the 350hp provided by the L46 version. The original owner selected a four-speed manual transmission and power steering, and if this is the entry-level ZQ3, it should blast through the ¼-mile in 14.7 seconds. If the new owner finds they have the extra 50hp provided by the L46, that figure drops to 14.1 seconds. The seller states that the car has covered 20,000 miles since the previous owner rebuilt the small-block and transmission. They also fitted a new clutch and dual exhaust, although there may be other work the seller hasn’t listed. They say it runs and drives beautifully, with no vices or other problems.

It can sometimes be difficult to determine if a classic is desirable, but most of our readers know how coveted chrome-bumper C3 Corvettes are. However, this Convertible receiving twenty-two bids in under two days acts as confirmation. This ‘Vette seems to need nothing and would suit someone seeking a turnkey proposition. The listing suggests it could be the type of car where the winning bidder could fly in and drive it home. Therefore, if you fancy a Florida vacation with a pleasant twist, maybe it’s time to join the bidding party.

The 4 speed L46 is a great combination…one of the best!

The tach red-line would seem to indicate this is an L46, but it is pretty hard to see in the E Bay photos. As well, the engine may not be original to the car…so….

Best of luck to the new owner, very nice looking C3!

Nice car, wrong coast. Wonder why the rear view mirror is missing and I dislike folks who just toss plug wires on the motor like that – nice way to ruin ‘em when they touch an exhaust manifold or header. Could be a sweet deal for someone. Chrome C3’s are great.

At least the heads are a lot newer than 1970-spec, with the center-bolt valve covers.

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that “rebuild” 20,000 miles ago consisted of yanking the original motor and plugging in a Vortec crate engine.

Nice looking car but definitely not original motor it’s a later vortec for sure with those valve covers also photographed at a body shop with like 4-5 other corvettes in that background makes you wonder if that missing rear view mirror is because the windshield was replaced in repairing accident damage??
Sure looks nice and a 4 speed!!

Looks like at least a couple of vac lines have been cut or have missing segments, so something’s not going to work. Cool car though.

No air cleaner because with the hi-rise intake manifold it would hit the hood. Ooops!

Bidding now at $20K. Not surprising. I sold my 71 stingray convertible back in 2007 for $14 and while it was in very good shape, it wasn’t like this cars interior or exterior. I expect this car will push over $30K.

I like everyone else loves vettes, but I’m no Chevy boy. With prices of new & used cars & trucks and the market switch to ev ( yuk ) this Vette if as nice as presented maybe better than money in the bank.
