Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, and for sale here on eBay is this 1967 Ford Mustang. This car comes with a clear title and its auction appears to have generated some interest out there in cyberspace. A total of 32 bids have seen the price reach $16,600 but the reserve hasn’t been met.
On the face of it this ’67 model has a lot to recommend it. A big block car in black with a list of options as long as your arm just sounds so promising. Unfortunately that great enemy of the Mustang, rust, has gotten its teeth into this car and doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to let go. The photos tell the story, and it’s only the story of that which we can see. As you can see from this shot there is rot in the doors and in the rear quarter panels, and it all appears to be quite extensive.
This is the trunk floor. This all looks so bad that I don’t even want to consider how bad all of the really important areas on this Mustang look. This is not a job for a backyard cowboy. If (and that’s a big word) this car is to be brought back to life, then it is going to either be a bare shell restoration, or the new owner would need to invest in a known good shell as a starting point. My question would be that with the bidding where it is at present, would it actually make economic sense?
Under the hood sits the 390ci V8 which is backed by a C6 automatic transmission which then sends power to an Equa-Lock differential. This car has been optioned with a nice array of other creature comforts which include power steering and air conditioning. The seller claims that everything under here is original, but to me that’s of little comfort when you look at this in the cold light of day. As I stare at this I am struggling to find something meaningful and constructive to say, but the sight of so much corrosion just leaves me wanting.
The thing that strikes me about this particular Mustang is the consistency. The interior simply doesn’t present at all well, and seems to be as one with the rest of the car. Once again it features (or featured) so many desirable options. It came with upper and lower consoles, a tilt-away steering wheel, AM/FM 8-track stereo and deluxe seat belts just to name a few. The original stereo is no longer there, the tilt-away wheel still tilts but what remains to me is of questionable value. I will admit that the dash pad looks to be reasonable, as does the back seat. However, the front seats will require new covers, as will the door cards. Both consoles will require complete restoration as will the dash and the cosmetic trims on the instruments.
In the past I have written some of these articles and have probably looked at cars through rose-colored glasses. I simply can’t do that with this one. The rot that we can see is bad, but I suspect that it is probably only an entree. Climbing under the car would reveal the main course. When it was new it was a well-equipped and desirable car. If it were in decent condition today it still would be. Sadly, the majority of the optional equipment fitted to this particular Mustang is now in such poor condition that its value is, for the large part, negligible. To me a restoration of this particular car is not financially viable, and it is probably destined to be a donor car for someone’s project. Am I wrong, because that has happened more than once in the past.
Oils be a nice car but even though a coveted 390 this rustang needs rebuilt from ground up.

mustangs are great at the right price..
but flippers need to realize the asking price and list accordingly
I had a ’67 Mustang fastback with the 390 4 spd. No other options, not even a radio. An absolute hoot to drive in the world of .35 per gallon gas. Unfortunately, I was young and dumb and let it get away from me.
When I saw the first picture, I involuntarily stopped breathing. Then I saw the rest of the pictures…..
Agree with Classic Steel. My only addition to his comment would be to add a big, fat reserve for the unexpected items that WILL show up.
We must be about same the age, Bob. I had one also, right after high school. I moved to another town, and my dad was moving also, so I told him to go ahead and sell it. Big regrets, looking at these prices the last few years! ^%$#$@#! :)
Sad to see such a nice optioned car end up like this and it’s over priced already.
This is an unusual car: very well-equipped, 390, no GT package. With the plentiful and affordable repair panels available for Mustangs, a DIY restorer who’s handy with a welder and associated equipment can save this one and draw some attention at cruise nights. I suspect that’s what all the bidding activity is about – people who see the potential to enjoy the finished car rather than people who seek to turn a profit. Isn’t that the way it should be?
The bidding is now over $22k and the reserve still has not been met. Sigh.
That’s a good chunk of change for what amounts to a title, VIN and parts car!

Red flag! From the eBay listing:
There were two recent foreign bidders that ran the bid up and would not respond to requests for communication as to verify their ability to complete the auction or to verify themselves as legitimate buyers. One of the two bidders had no feedback and proceeded to bid without a contact email. These bidders have been blocked and their bids removed. The auction will continue at the highest legitimate bidders highest bid.
Probably the best overall way to fix this is buy a Dynacorn body and swap everything over. And since it is missing it is probably a moot point but the radio was an AM – 8 track. There was no AM/FM – 8 track option.

This car will eventually sell for between 25 to 30 gand! No doubt about it! You will definitely not see it as a donor car ! There are not to many of these left laying around anymore! The year is what is special! I have one in my collection just like this one identical in every way except mine is in immaculate condition!
if one paid $22,000.00 for this “car” they would wake up at night suffering a panic attack, unless one had a rust free 67 fast back with a 6 cylinder/auto to swap it with there’s no hope. Even a restoration guru needs something to weld new floors, inner fender, torque boxes, 1/4 panels to. To me it looks as if the poor old girl would crack in half as it was wrenched onto the trailer.
