Garage Find: 1972 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This 1972 Chevrolet Corvette has been garage-stored for many years following the original owner’s transition to family life. Apparently, it was bought new in the Washington, D.C. area and used frequently at drag strips in Maryland. It is an LT1 / 4-speed car that has had its original engine block replaced many years ago, and has been partially disassembled for restoration. The original owner had a stroke and will not finish the car, so it’s listed here on eBay with an opening bid of $9,500 and no reserve.

The Corvette wears some very attractive colors, in my opinion, and I dig the wheels as well. The body graphics are said to be have once matched the owner’s custom van purchased to shuttle his growing family. The body looks quite straight on the Corvette, and the seller says the paint is still in presentable condition. I dig the side pipes, too.

The owner took the engine apart for a rebuild and also removed the interior for restoration. Unfortunately, a stroke prevented him from moving forward with the project, and the Corvette now sits as a non-runner that’s been partially disassembled. The good news is that while it was in garage storage for years, it doesn’t appear to have been damaged or otherwise fallen victim to the perils of long-term parking in homes with children running around.

The interior is in need of some work, potentially looking like the neediest section of the Corvette. The cosmetics are rough, and the seats look like they’ve been exposed to heat or moisture for far too long. The friend selling it for the owner claims he intended to make it like new again, and hopefully, the next owner will start with the cabin. Think they’ll find any takers at the nearly $10K opening bid?

Centerline Champ 500’s! My fave custom rim from that period by far.

$10k for a legit last year LT1 ragtop is semi reasonable, esp if it has/had AC.

Non stock block is a bummer but not that unusual for a high winding 4-speed.

    Love the color

    Gone.

I’d put my money on a flipper selling it rather than a friend of the original owner.

LT1 and a convertible ! Not a bad price, and worthwhile project. The only year (’70-’72) that you could order A/C on a LT1. My ’71 LT1 could use it, it’s a beast but gets hot inside in the Summer !
