Some cars, when modified, remind you just how good the original styling was. While we tend to love preserved, stock cars around here, this 1989 Chevrolet Corvette with the Greenwood (or, Greenwood-style) body kit looks like a muscle car should when you decide tweak the styling. The color is also working here, as it appears to be Dark Red Metallic which is a great alternative to the usual reds and blacks. The best news? It’s offered at no reserve here on eBay and bids are sitting at just over $4,000, which could make this a bit of a bargain when the auction wraps up on Monday.
The seller is cautious to call this a Greenwood-style kit, which could mean the side skirts, rear valance, front air dam, and rear spoiler are not actual Greenwood items; regardless, it all fits well and looks like it belongs there. It would look even better – in my humble opinion – if the rear spoiler was deleted, but that’s a subjective view. The paint looks clean overall, and the body kit pieces appear to match well. The factory 17-inch directional wheels remain some of the best-looking stock wheels ever made, and look quite clean with no signs of major pitting or curb damage.
The interior is a treat, too, as I was expecting to see black leather. The camel or tan-tone cockpit may not be particularly wild but it looks great against the dark red paint. The rest of the interior – well, it’s standard-issue GM quality from the 1980s, so it’s average at best. There’s under 70,000 miles on the clock, and in the case of a car like this, that’s not particularly low – you can find plenty of Corvettes from this generation with lower – but what’s more important is how good this car still looks despite having that many miles. The C4 comes with a removable targa top, which apparently wasn’t removed too often given I see no evidence of sun damage.
The 1989 Corvette is powered by a L98 V8 that kicked out a respectable 245 horsepower 340 lb.-ft. of torque. The automatic transmission will sap some of the fun, but it will still provide more than enough power to be entertaining. There will always be stock Corvettes with under 20,000 miles on the clock if you want a survivor; this one offers a chance for someone who digs the C4 to get into one with some attractive modifications that don’t alter the car’s rock-solid mechanical reliability. Factor in the no-reserve listing and there lots of boxes checked here. What say you: is this Corvette equipped with a genuine Greenwood kit?

“Sap some fun?” Man, the automatic hate on this site gets old.
I get the point though. An automatic is kinda like a one-armed drummer; they can still sound great with both feet jamming away, but the loss of an arm is noticeable.
Seeing as the only thing I can play is a turntable, more power to those about to rock; I salute you!
Have always liked the exterior styling of the C4. My favorite is the ‘93 in the 40th anniversary ruby red, which seems to be the color used on this one. The ruby red looks far better against a tan interior, which unfortunately wasn’t offered on the 40th package; only a matching red interior which IMO made the already cheap looking dash and plastic look even cheaper. The body kit isn’t my cup of tea so I’d be looking for a low miles ‘93-96 instead. GLWTS.
The Ruby Red paint really helps the body kit pieces blend in. I do wonder if the front spoiler added on has any effect on the air flow to the radiator? I would also be really careful driving over speed bumps or similar obstacles.
