Hidden Since 2000: 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser

The seller of this FJ62-series Toyota Land Cruiser claims this truck had been hidden in a storage facility on Cape Cod since 2000. With just over 100,000 original miles, it is a youngster by Land Cruiser standards. Despite living in the northeast, there is no rust to report, as the truck was apparently used sparingly as a fishing rig. The Land Cruiser has since made its way to Colorado where it’s been inspected and confirmed to be in excellent running condition and highly original. Find it here on eBay where bidding is just under $31,000 with the reserve unmet.

The Land Cruiser has established itself as a seriously iconic vehicle. Rugged as hell with drivetrains known for racking up huge mileage with just regular maintenance, the Land Cruiser was coveted at first for its dependability and now for its collectability. If you happen to come across a Land Cruiser of any vintage that isn’t rusty and has been at least given the bare minimum of servicing, you’ve got a truck on your hands that will pay you back both in reliable daily use and future resale value. The white paint of this truck is said to be original and the chrome wheels appear to be in excellent shape.

It only gets better inside where this cabin looks like it has seen far fewer miles than the 100K on the clock would suggest. The gray and blue cloth interior is in very good shape and the truck is well-equipped with power windows, locks, mirrors, and more, along with a factory radio featuring a powered fender-mounted aerial. The radio does still work along with the air conditioning and all gauges. The seller claims he had the Land Cruiser gone over by Toyota specialist shop Toyauto Inc. in Englewood, and aside from replacing the shock absorbers, it received a clean bill of health.

Of course, you really have to abuse a Land Cruiser to not see it come back with strong compression numbers like this truck supposedly has. The seller claims to be a collector of VW Buses and Porsche 356s, and that he is a “perfectionist,” which should help potential buyers feel comfortable about who they’re buying this truck from. Of course, that’s the world the square body Land Cruisers have entered, where they’re parked next to an iconic German sports car and buffed with care each week. Quite a transition for a vehicle designed to go to the ends of the Earth and back again.

It’s not thst obvious if this one is petrol or diesel. My father had a 90/91 petrol Nissan Patrol and that was a Gas Guzzler ( note with capital Gs ). Very sluggish as well.
If this Toyota is petrol then it’s not such a problem in the USA but petrol a lot more expensive here in Australia.

Most likely it’s petrol. I don’t believe you could get a diesel one in the USA. All of the land cruisers I’ve seen for sale in the US have been petrol. Quite a shame because I adore my diesel 80 series.

We never got the diesel engines here in the US.

Wish they still made them like this and some later body styles

Very nice condition, though I prefer the 60 series round headlights/manual transmission.
with that said, I own a 96 FZJ 80 series that I love, but have it off the road for some major rust repair, I just cant part with it, I have had it 19+ years

Twenty-two years in a Cape Cod storage facility and it looks like this? I would like to see the storage facility. Must be a vault.
