High School Grad Gift! 1967 Chevrolet Corvette

The second-generation Corvette arrived in 1963 and would ramp up the buying public’s interest in the sports car. The Sting Ray moniker would be used for the first time and the ’63 coupe became iconic due to its split rear-window design (one year only). This 1967 model was the end of the line for the C2 before the total redesign came along in 1968 taking Mako Shark styling cues. This non-running ’67 ‘Vette was in the same family for ages having once been a high school graduation gift. Needing restoration, this Chevy is in Malta, Illinois, and is available here on eBay where the opening bid of $57,700 has yet to be cast (there is no reserve).

Rumor has it that the C3 Corvettes were first set to debut in 1967 but were delayed as folks at Chevrolet were busy getting the new Camaro “pony car” ready to go to market. Which was okay as it allowed the Bow-Tie guys to further refine what has come to be a desirable year for the Corvette. Buyers still liked what they saw and nearly 23,000 ‘Vettes were built in ’67, with about two-thirds being the convertible with the optional hardtop as the seller’s car.

We’re told this ‘Vette was a gift for a high school senior (nice family; all I got was a pizza party!). Some photos from those days have survived along with a load of original paperwork, so a history trail will come with this purchase. But the car hasn’t run in some time and the maroon repaint from 1978 has pretty well faded away. We assume indoor storage was involved as the red interior looks to have come out of it relatively unscathed. Only the hardtop headliner has a droop in one spot.

The seller says the motor turns, but the car has not been started. We assume there’s a standard 300 hp, 327 cubic inch V8 under the hood though the seller says a hood for a 427 Corvette comes with the deal. This is also a 4-speed car, the best way to equip a ‘Vette! The body and chassis are said to be in good shape and the doors open and close as they should. A selection of parts come with the Chevy, including Rally wheels, side pipes (new in the box), hardtop carrier/cover, and brake components. At 43,000 miles, this Corvette should have lots of life left once you can get it roadworthy.

Too much money. Base engine car, but great color combo. 67 is the year every Corvette collector desires, but the market is a bit soft at the moment. Just because it has only 43,000 miles doesn’t mean a thing. This car will be 60 years old in a little more than three years. Corvettes that sit need plenty. I have restored two and the credit card bills were insane.

Frame is really crusty. Almost 60k non running? Start it at 25k imo.

Is it my eyes or is there a big crack in the frame? Looks like it should be about 1/3 of that amount noted and something like a RodShop replacement frame included IMO.

Fog lights but not driven in any winters. Crusty frame but not driven in any winters. Right. But it’s a non smoker car. Yep. Still has that new car smell.
All the paperwork and POP are great and if it was a BB car then maybe.
But, hey, all ya need to do is ‘hook up starter to get running’.

Well where do we start. Looks like it hasn’t had a bath or polish since graduation. Same tires since he had that cap and gown on. The 43k miles must have been the summer miles. How many winters miles was this left unattended. Why do so many people think just because it says Corvette it worth Pie in the sky money. It’s only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Seems the other two vehicles he has for sale are overpriced as well. Maybe he should stick to model cars.

The only underneath photo looks like only surface corrosion and dirt on the frame. What area looks scary to you?

    Not arguing, just asking. 😊

Lot’s of heavy surface scale and the inside is probably worse. Also looks thin in spots. Dip it and I guarantee you’re gonna need a frame or frame repairs. Seen a lot of these in this condition.

Thanks Maggy. I never looked at a vette on a lift before.
