Highly Documented: 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

Some classics tick more boxes than others for enthusiasts, and this 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra is probably up there with the best of them. It isn’t simply because it presents beautifully and is a genuine survivor. It is the fact that its sale will include extensive documentation dating back to Day One. For enthusiasts seeking an investment-grade vehicle, it probably doesn’t get much better than that. The seller has listed the Cobra here on eBay in Ponte Vedra, Florida. They set their BIN at $44,000 for a car that I would happily park in my garage.

Ford established SVT in 1991 as an organization tasked with injecting excitement into the company’s model range. SVT’s range of products was quite diverse, weaving its magic on the Fox-body Mustang in 1993 to create the SVT Cobra. Only 4,993 of these classics left SVT, with this one carrying the original Certificate and other documentation confirming that it is #4,562. The Cobra was only offered in four paint shades, with this classic wearing Teal, which is also my favorite. The shade was chosen by 1,355 buyers, far fewer than those who selected Black or Vibrant Red Clearcoat. The car’s overall presentation is exceptionally tidy, an impression heightened in this YouTube video. It provides a comprehensive walkaround that isn’t loaded with inane chatter, allowing us to get a clear vision of every aspect of this Ford. The paint shines beautifully and is devoid of major flaws and problems. The panels are straight, the Cobra-specific aero items are in good order, and there is no rust to spoil the ownership experience. The 17″ wheels can be prone to stains and curb strike, but the ones on this car appear perfect.

It is no secret that by 1993, Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 was getting pretty long in the tooth. It had served the company admirably, but SVT gave the engine a birthday to squeeze more from it as what was almost a last hurrah. It added GT40 cylinder heads, updated injectors, an improved intake, a tweaked engine management system, and exhaust upgrades. The results justified the effort, with the V8 producing what Ford claimed was an “official” 230hp and 304 ft/lbs of torque. Of course, the company had continued the practice of modesty, with many people believing that the power and torque figures were higher. Ford decided that an internally upgraded T-5 manual transmission would tackle shifting duties, with the Cobra also receiving suspension and brake upgrades to create a “total” package. The seller states that this beauty is numbers-matching, and they admit that it has undergone changes to the suspension and the exhaust. However, any removed parts were retained, allowing the buyer to recapture this classic’s factory form if they are so inclined. The documentation includes the SVT Certificate, the original Window Sticker, and a letter sent by SVT to the original owner. This is a turnkey proposition that the new owner can enjoy immediately.

Buyers ordering a ’93 SVT Cobra could choose between three interior trim options. This car is 1-of-368 where the first owner teamed Teal paint with Opal Gray cloth interior trim. There are rarer combinations, but with leather trim chosen by around 60% of buyers, it makes this car slightly unusual. The interior is another aspect of this Cobra that is almost impossible to fault. The prone outer seat edges are wear-free, with the same true of the remaining upholstered surfaces and the carpet. There is no evidence of UV deterioration, and the only change was the seller’s decision to perform an internal upgrade to the CD player for improved sound. This car is slightly unusual because it doesn’t have cruise control. However, the buyer does receive air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, and power lumbar support.

As a Barn Finds writer, I have found the last week quite interesting. I was once asked to compile a Wish List of post-war classics, but I was only ever allowed to choose one car from each decade to park in my garage. I have already featured a 1987 Buick Grand National and a ’57 Bel Air Convertible in Matador Red in the past seven days. This 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra represents a trifecta, especially considering that it is finished in my preferred paint shade. I believe that its greatest attribute is that it is a high-end driver, and not some low-mile trailer queen that will spend its life hidden away in a garage. SVT created these cars to be driven and enjoyed, and I believe that this is what awaits this Cobra with its new owner. Sadly, that person won’t be me. Could it be you?

A Teal Cobra is near the top of the desirability list for many Fox Mustang enthusiasts. Sounds like it fits Adam’s wish list too. This example isn’t low mileage, but looks good and has had lots of maintenance. The seller has kept the original parts. Good ad. No concerns with adding miles to a low-mileage example; drive it and enjoy it.

There are folks within Ford who understand, and value, the history of the Mustang. Not only the early generation models, but also later models. For 2026 Ford is offering a FX package on the Mustang. Available on them is a color called Adriatic Blue Metallic– which is a shade of teal, and a clear nod to the 90’s including the Teal Cobras.

Very clean and well maintained last of the good body Mustangs. This one will get picked up by someone who wants a clean one like this.

My favourite aspect of these was the teal paint and the wheels. They look good in red and black too. I didn’t realize 27% of them were teal, I’d thought it was much less.

The wheels were refreshing as the 5 star Ponies, as good looking as they are, were getting generic looking by 1993. And teal is the quintessential 90’s colour.
