Holy Batcycle! Batman and Robin Toy

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If you were a male child in the mid-1960s, you probably were a big fan of the Batman TV series! I know I was, and watched it faithfully over 120 episodes between 1966 and 1968. The Batcycle was one of the show’s props, though it was seen much less often than the coveted Batmobile. The seller offers a rolling toy of the Batcycle, complete with Batman and Robin figures, but we don’t know much about it, so perhaps some of our readers can add a few details! Located in Melbourne, Florida, this cool toy is available here on eBay for $399 OBO.

The TV show and movie used two versions of the custom Batcycle, one based on a Harley-Davidson and another on a Yamaha. While Adam West and Burt Ward looked like they were having a blast on it, they never actually drove the Batcycle, with those honors going to stunt doubles (who said it was a pain to operate). Over the years, several toy companies have released their versions of the Batcycle, and we don’t know which one this is. The seller doesn’t say, and none of the photos include the all-important original box, which we assume has flown the coop. We’re told this one is from the 1970s.

This is a battery-operated toy whose scale isn’t mentioned. Since we see a hand holding it in one photo, it may be something like 1/18th, but that’s simply a guess. It was running when batteries were added, but now it seems to be stalled in siren mode (so don’t turn it on until you’ve got that fixed). At least one of the lights doesn’t work,k but the bulb is there, and the lens is detached to get at it. Other flaws include a sidecar wheel that needs to be glued back on.

Since this toy is 50+ years old and has been used, some of the stickers have become a little loose, and glue is needed. But it seems all the colors are bright, so this toy can be shown without having to make apologies. If you’re a Batman fan and prefer the look of the TV series, these are toys that are probably hard to come by in good condition. Whatever Batman toys I had in the 1960s made it to the trash can before my teens!

This is really neat. I didn’t have one, but certainly remember a lot of other battery powered cars with lights and sirens etc. Im sure I drove my Mom nuts. Thanks for the great memories Russ.

The real Catwoman was Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, or Eartha Kitt. And the real Batman didn’t need molded plastic,,,pure West.

When you look at the ebay link there is a second one of the same toy shown as a different listing. On the second listing you can read the base which has PAT 5027, ROC, and MADE IN TAIWAN. The second listing is from a seller in Peru. On the original listing there are stickers that say BATMAN E ROBIN, which I believe would be in Spanish. Which would make sense if these were made to be sold in South American countries.

When I was seven, we lived in FLA. One of my neighbor friends was one of the only kids on the block whose folks had a color TV (and a mom who was cool with letting a whole gaggle of kids pile into their den to watch it every weekday afternoon in the summer.). At 4 p.m., we would all go over there & watch Batman & Gilligan’s Island in color. I remember that like it was yesterday even though it was more than 50 years ago. The things that stay with you…

When I first spotted this and submitted it to BF, I figured there would be some interest in it and maybe even some folks that actually owned one. Although I never owned one. it is an interesting piece of 60’s TV nostalgia.

    Thanks Russ for featuring it.
