In 1990, Chevrolet provided two cars for the Indianapolis 500: the Beretta was chosen for the pace car, but the Corvette was selected for festival duty. The latter cars shuttled around officials, dignitaries, and the press during those two weeks in May. As many as 80 of them were drafted for this assignment, of which 50 wore turquoise paint like the seller’s car. We’re told this is a real-deal festival car that has accumulated only 10,500 miles. So perhaps it was purchased post-Indy as a future collectible.
Corvette sales dipped slightly in 1990 though the hot new ZR-1 was now available. That engine went into just 13% of all Corvettes that year (total sales were about 23,600 units). No mention is made of a ZR-1 as a part of the seller’s car and no photos are provided with the hood open, so this one must have the “regular” 5.7-liter V8 engine. A dealer appears to be leading the charge for the sale of this Corvette, so there are no details on its history after the Indy 500.
We’re told it’s in excellent condition and is ready to be added to a collection or even a museum. The interior is outfitted with a pair of really cool 6-way power black leather seats. Another option is an engine oil cooler and a beefed-up rear axle. Loads of documentation are part of the transaction and the vehicle is registered with something called Indy 500 Festival Associates (a group for pace and festival car owners?).
This numbered vehicle is in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is available here on Facebook Marketplace. The listing is about a month old, so there have been no takers at the $26,900 asking price. Would you buy this Corvette to drive or to show (though you could do both)? Thanks to Barn Finder T.J. for another interesting tip!
Needs a stick!
Russ- No ZR-1 convertibles during the entire production run. The concave back bumper is another clue.
If anybody pays half the asking price, I will be amazed. Face reality, it’s a C-4.
15k would be a great price and all it’s worth. Not double that amount.
Looks like they are trying to flip it from the Mecum Tulsa auction. Lot F51 sold for $19.8k all in on June 7th. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1118650/1990-chevrolet-corvette-indianapolis-500-festival-car/
They are trying to flip it. It was sold at Mecum Tulsa in June for $19.8k all in,
Why in the world would anyone pay over 19K for this thing? I have lost all faith in people’s ability to justify the value of a “collector car”.
