L79/4-Speed: 1967 Chevrolet Corvette

The listing indicates that this beautiful 1967 Chevrolet Corvette has 68,000 miles on the clock, but, incredibly, it has only accumulated around 5,000 of those since 1976. It is an extremely tidy survivor, and if the odometer reading doesn’t tempt you to pursue it further, perhaps the first owner’s decision to equip it with the desirable L79 version of the 327ci V8 might be motivation enough. The seller has listed the Corvette here on eBay in Farmingville, New York. Frantic bidding has pushed the price to $42,421, which is below the reserve.

Chevrolet planned to introduce the C3 Corvette for the 1967 model year, but aerodynamic shortcomings with its latest offering prompted a one-year delay. The company performed some minor cosmetic updates to the C2 as an interim measure, as it was unwilling to spend a fortune on a body style that would soon be obsolete. This final-year example was ordered by its first owner in Goodwood Green, which was 1-of-10 paint shades available in 1967. It proved to be the most popular color by a fair margin and was chosen by 4,293 buyers. The seller has been this classic’s custodian since 1976, and doesn’t mention a restoration history. It has always been garage-kept, which should ensure that there are no rust issues with the frame or the birdcage. The paint shines nicely, and there are no glaring fiberglass problems. The trim looks acceptable for a survivor-grade classic, which is what I believe this Corvette to be.

The seller describes this Corvette’s interior as Black, but it looks predominantly Green to me. There are a couple of splits on the driver’s seat and evidence of typical carpet fading, but the overall presentation is consistent with a survivor-grade vehicle. The remaining upholstered surfaces exhibit no major problems, the dash looks clean, and the garage-kept history has allowed it to avoid any UV damage. The Teakwood wheel is crack-free, and the first owner equipped the car with the popular AM/FM radio.

This Corvette’s mechanical specifications include a 327ci V8, a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission, and a 4.11 Posi rear end. This small-block is the L79 variant, and since it added only $105.35 to the sticker price, it is easy to understand why it was chosen by almost 28% of buyers in 1967. It generates 350hp and 360 ft.lbs of torque, and while both figures are lower than you might receive from a big-block variant, the 327 placed less weight over the front wheels. Therefore, that made these more complete driver’s cars than those with the 427ci V8 under the hood. The seller indicates that although this Corvette doesn’t see an enormous amount of use, it has been meticulously maintained. Not only will the buyer receive the original Tank Sticker and Owner’s Manual, but the deal includes comprehensive Service Records and Fuel Records! If you’re seeking a turnkey classic with a healthy paper trail, this Corvette ticks that box.

Determining the inherent desirability of a classic is sometimes challenging, but this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette leaves us with no doubt. The Listing View and Watch List tallies of 423 and 60, respectively, have resulted in thirty bids, and there is plenty of time for all of those numbers to climb significantly. That poses the question of what the final sale price will be. This Corvette isn’t perfect, but recent sales suggest that it should at least nudge $70,000 before the hammer falls. Do you agree, or do you have another figure in mind?

Sucker punched me with the ‘64, Adam and here’s the knockout haymaker. Another drivers Corvette for its time, you nailed it with the Mouse motor and subsequent weight/HP combo. Definitely one to have in your corner for the classic late ‘60’s Detroit iron.
A few years ago your $70k would have been laughable but probably realistic now, though Steve R. is probably the better one to call this one out.
Another sweet ride, Adam. Nicely done.

Thank you so much for your kind comment, Nevadahalftrack. I don’t have any spare space in my garage for this beautiful Corvette, but I’d definitely try to clear a spot if it didn’t involve trying to sneak it past my wife!

Having done the same on several cars I can appreciate the care this car has received. Takes a concerted effort and a lot of time but worth every bit of it when you are sitting in your chair in your garage with your cold beer looking at it.

Amazing what these are worth compared to the C4 generation! At some point, GM really took a wrong turn with these.
