Large Luxury Limo! 1988 Cadillac Brougham Limousine

In the good old days, if your entourage was riding around in a stretched limo like this Moloney Coachbuilders manufactured 1988 Cadillac Brougham, you were cruising in style!  The company dates back to 1968 when Earle Moloney had a vision for stretched sedans and founded Moloney Coachbuilders, which is considered a pioneer in the industry of long wheel-base vehicles.  Moloney even performed the first crash test of a Cadillac limousine to demonstrate the safety standards of the company’s manufacturing methods.  Moloney Coachbuilders also had an offshoot company called Moloney Armor Corporation, which developed and manufactured armored vehicles, some of which served in high-security capacities such as United States Presidential travel.  While the Moloney creation offered here may not have bullet-proof glass and doors, it does fill the role of a luxurious stretched Caddy quite nicely, and if you’ve got a really big garage this 1988 Cadillac Brougham limousine may be worth a look.  It’s located in Enola, Pennsylvania, and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $4,651.

The seller doesn’t give us a whole lot of information about the car’s history but does say that the odometer is only showing 17,665 miles, and mentions that the person it was purchased from assured him the mileage was accurate, plus the title indicates this is the original mileage.  However, he does state that this mileage cannot be guaranteed.  The car has undergone a smooth and glossy repaint, with little rust except for the area between the vinyl top and trunk lid.  There’s also a small round area on the top rear of the trunk lid where the paint is cracked, but overall the car seems to look really good on the outside.

There’s plenty of room for stretching out in the back, and the interior is said to be in really nice shape.  The car has black leather seats all around and they have no tears or major wrinkles, and the original carpet and floor mats look good.  Upfront, the dash pad has one crack, but the armrests have no splits and the headliner is in good condition.   The glass divider window between the front and back works with a button from either side, and the intercom system is said to be functioning properly.

Under the hood is the factory 5.0 liter 4-Barrel V8, which is said to start right up and run well.  The transmission is also shifting properly, and the car is claimed to be quiet and drives down the road nicely.  Although the tires have plenty of treads left, there is some dry-rotting, but the automatic ride-leveling suspension is still working.  What are your thoughts on this 1988 Cadillac Brougham Limousine?

Don’t know if it is accurate but this site says it is the 307 Oldsmobile.

BTW my 79 Mustang 5.0 had 140 horses and 250 lb./feet of torque, so it was a wee bit more powerful (in a much lighter body). I would not want to do any stoplight drag races with the limo. Sand’ll be kicked in your face every time.

Its a luxury car–not a muscle car. On long trips I,d much rather ride in the caddy. Then your mustang anyday. If you do—In can imagine you getting out holding your baack and complaining about your back hurting

        @ Johnny.

I wasn’t trying to say my Mustang was a better car, only that the performance from the Caddy would be very pedestrian. I agree, that on a long trip, the Caddy would be the better option.

Car was never built for speed. That’s like saying my Dodge Ram with a lift kit and 410s in the rear is not fast. Not supposed to be. Now muscle cars on the other hand are. Just not ones from the 70s. They would get dogged by today’s Hyundai sedans.

The Oldsmobile had chevy engines. Cadillac always had its engine division. We ran a 1978 Olds Delta 88 with a chevy engine. Nobody wanted the car. Put 350,000 miles on it before the carburetor quit. Best car in the fleet!

In 1968 GM was sued over putting Chevrolet motors in Cadillac,s and GM lost. That is why now they advertise you could have any GM make motor.

On his deathbed at a hospice in FL, my great uncle handed me the keys to his 1988 Brougham. Quite a FL car: White with white leather interior with blue trim. This was back in 2002. It sat on blocks for about 15 years and I got it moving again. Started right up. I drive it about six months of the year. It’s an obnoxious pig that I never would think of purchasing. But this car stood for so much for my uncle, given his generation, that I cannot part with it. And I have to say, that I love it. It does not like to start moving, stop moving, or turn. But it likes to cruise at about 45-50. You can fit three dead bodies in the trunk. I have fuzzy dice and I blast Louis Prima from the radio. Its 307 is a pig, which peaked in the 442 in the 1960s. After that, its anemia set in. I have a vanity plate: MOBY. The car is a caricature in the area and people come up when I’m running errands and tell me that they’ve been seeing the car all over the place and now they can meet MOBY. It’s fun. But the beast here for sale trumps mine.

When I was a kid, maybe 12 or 14YO, my dad was looking for replacement family car. My younger brother & I tried to persuade him to look at a used limo at the local Cadillac dealer. Our pitch: the parents could raise the privacy window and we could have our “fun” in back. No sale.

I have owned a few limousines. Lots of fun for the passangers, not so much fun for the driver.

I’ve only had one limo, this 1998 Cadillac 6-door DeVille with the Northstar. One of the nicest cars I ever owned, and not much longer than the 4 door.

This car would make a great CAMPER. Just toss in some blankets and some grub and away you go.
