This Chevelle SS 396 was last registered in 1979. It runs and drives, and is now ready for a new owner to enjoy and appreciate this classic. Listed for sale here on eBay it is located in Ono, Pennsylvania. It is offered with a clean title and at the time of writing bidding had reached $29,100 but the reserve hasn’t been met yet.
This Chevelle is a clean and honest car. The seller provides a number of clear shots of the underside of the car, and the term “rock solid” springs instantly to mind. The only obvious rust issue is this spot near the rear window with a matching spot on the opposite side. The body is honest with a few dings and paint finish issues that will also need to be addressed. The rear quarter panels have been repainted at some stage, but this appears to have been done many years ago.
The interior looks to be in terrific condition for a survivor car of this age. There is wear apparent on the steering wheel, but there are no other signs of cracks or tears anywhere. The dash and console clocks are not operating, but there are no other issues to report there.
The drive-train is exactly as it left the factory, with everything matching numbers. The 396ci V8 is said to run perfectly, and it is backed by the M20 4-speed transmission. The seller has clocked up 50 miles on the car since it came into their possession, and they state that it drives really nicely. Certainly the engine bay looks nice and clean, and everything looks remarkably well preserved.
This Chevelle is a nice looking car that only needs a small amount of work to make it immaculate. It appears to be in solid condition, and if the market is any indicator on this auction I suspect that the price of this car is going to finish up significantly higher than where the bidding is at present.

Fun car. The tin worm was starting to attack, but a drunk driver ran a stop light and put the old girl out of the slow agonizing death.

Love those seats! My first mental image was a scene from “Goldfinger”.
Of course my mom didn’t have this kind of ‘67 Chevelle, but she did have a relatively obscure four-door hard top. Loved that car – At fifteen an a half, I begged my dad to keep it until I got my license, but he wouldn’t hear of it. I realize I am odd in that I would rather have that hard top than this, but that’s what certain cars do to impressionable young minds…

A rare find for sure. There is some evidence of rust starting under the back window chrome which was a real problem for GM cars with this roofline.

It shouldn’t have 2 clocks, the console has probably been added or the dash has been changed.
With the rust in the back window corners, you should also expect rust in the trunk and the rear quarter panels. Ask me how I know.
How about the FM converter hanging under the dash. Now that brings back memories.
I have a buddy who was my journeyman when I was an apprentice (electrician) who has a 67 Malibu 2 dr. similar to this in his garage for the past 20 some odd years, same color gold, but it isn’t an SS. It has a 327 4 barrel and originally a 3 speed that he swapped for a 4 speed. It originally had black bench seat interior, but now has buckets and a console of of a 66 or 67 El Camino (SS?) The story was that when he was an apprentice, a fellow apprentice with the EC commented on the burden of only being able to carry two people. He said that they agreed to swap seats one night during break at apprenticeship school. He also has two SS hoods and an extra set of doors. The trouble is, the car originally had a vinyl top, which caused the panel between the back window and trunk to rust out, which then rusted out the trunk. No rust anywhere else on the car- (Damn you vinyl tops!!!) He replaced both, but in the process, stripped the car down to nothing but the shell on the frame. IT has sat like that since. He also has a hemi orange 70 Dart Swinger 318 auto and Plum Crazy purple (now in primer) 70 Dodge Challenger R/T with a 383 auto in the same garage. He hasn’t touched any of them in years.His wife has explicit instructions to call me FIRST if and when he keels over. LOL. I tried to work a deal with him to swap a 72 C10 swb stepside that I had restored, (“restomod”), but he wouldn’t bite. I just hope that I get a shot at them before I get too old too!
All Hi-Po Chevys from the 60’s to the 70’s came with a sticker on the valve covers Made in Tonawanda, New York. Its a town in western N.Y. that houses Chevrolets Engine plant. I grew up there on the Niagara River, great place then.
