Levi Edition: 1978 Jeep J10 Honcho

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If this 1978 Jeep Honcho looks familiar, you may have seen it before. We featured this same truck here on Barn Finds in 2018. Back then it was located in West Des Moines, Iowa and now it resides in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The truck has the same mileage that it did in 2018, so I guess it hasn’t been driven since it was purchased. It can currently be found here on eBay with a bid of $2,600. Let’s check out this Jeep for the second time.

The interior looks pretty much the way it did five years ago. The brown tone of the seat cover really compliments the door panels, dash, and steering wheel.

This engine photo of the 360 V8 is from the 2018 ad. The current seller says that the engine isn’t running. They have confirmed that the engine turns over and has compression, but they don’t say why it may not be running. Hopefully, there isn’t too much wrong with it.

The undercarrige certainly has a consistent layer of surface rust, but there doesn’t seem to be any major structural issues. For a 45-year-old truck, it could be a lot worse. Obviously, aftermarket parts for trucks like this are less plentiful than its Ford and Chevrolet cousins, but it would certainly be a unique project.

You can see the faded “Honcho” decals are still visible on the doors. The 5-spoke wheels and aggressive mud tires are a nice period look for the truck. Overall, this looks like a salvageable project for a new owner. What do you think of these Jeep trucks?

How is this a Levi’s Edition? The Levi’s option was, denim fabric seat coverings. Made of fire-resistant material, but, supposedly, to look like denim.

I see vinyl on those seats. I suppose the seat could have been replaced…

@JustPassinThru agreed. If you look at the old 2018 ad, the seats in that one had already been replace and are a different color than the seats in this now

if it was a 75 would be worth pursuing …but commiefornia won’t move that date for non smog vehicles ..stuck at 76 for decades now

My friend Jeff had the same ‘78 Honcho in dark blue with the blue Levi’s interior. His too had the 360 with Quadra-Trac, it would climb a wall but the full time 4wd had a huge appetite for gas and front tires. Cool truck but he replaced it with a new F-150 around 1981 with a 351 that was a much more refined and similarly capable.
