Beauty is only skin deep. Well, except in the case of this 1984 Camaro Z28, where the beauty can be found below the surface. The Camaro looks a bit rough and tough, but deep down it has a soundly beating heart that makes it well worth a look. Located in El Paso, Texas, you will find the Camaro listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding has only reached $970 at the time of writing. What makes this an even more intriguing car is that it is being sold with no reserve.
I’m not going to try to tell you that this Camaro just needs a good buff and polish, because the paint is well beyond that stage. It appears that the Texas sun has done its best, and the car would need a repaint to return it to its former glory. On the positive side, it is from Texas, so there isn’t a spot of rust to be seen. So, it looks like a repaint will have it looking good. There are also no photos of the interior, but what we can glimpse in the photos seems to reveal more of the same story. The seats will need new covers, the carpet is pretty tired, and a number of plastic trim items like the floor console, have deteriorated quite noticeably. So, by now you are wondering whether it is all worth the effort.
I’ve skipped over the entree to get straight to the main course, and it isn’t a bad one at all. Under the hood is a freshly built 350ci V8 that has less than 200 miles on it, as does the rebuilt 700R4 transmission. For the sake of keeping life interesting, that 350 sports some rather nice additions. The JEGS aluminum heads are a pretty good start, as are the Engine Pro roller rockers. You also get new Clevite bearings, Federal-Mogul cast pistons, an Xtreme Energy flat tappet camshaft, and an Edelbrock 750cfm carburetor. New Hedman headers, a new dual exhaust, new starter, new engine mounts, and a host of other new items means that you shouldn’t have to lay a spanner on this old girl for quite a while. It is worth checking out the ad because the list of new components that this Camaro has received is just mind-boggling. So, how does it sound? You can check out this YouTube video to hear that mighty engine running.
If this was just an every-day 1984 Camaro Z28 with its current cosmetic issues, the owner would probably be battling to sell it for more than about $3,000. What lies hiding under the hood is a bit of a game-changer. The sheer amount of new mechanical components that this car has received in the past two months would be worth more than that figure alone. I don’t know what it will sell for, but this is an auction that I will definitely be watching. It will be interesting to see if any of our Barn Finds readers decide to bid on it.
Geez I hope that the Seller doesn’t lose his shirt on this! Maybe he already has. With that warmed up 350 this must be a quick Chevy! Good luck to them on this.
You gotta love a sleeper! Nice job-hopefully the drivetrain has been reinforced to handle the power.
More like wolf in water-based paint clothing.
If the seller wanted to make this more of a sleeper there are a lot of better engines than the 350 that Chevy has to offer I have a magazine that has almost every engine that Chevy ever built in it
Don’t underestimate a strong treefiddy. They have outstanding power and GM made them for decades for a reason.
This is one bad bowtie. I wanna buy it, spray it black and put it sideways around every left turn in town like I was 20 still. Glad to see the E-bayers are showing it a lot of attention, i’m sure there’ll be a bunch of last minute bids.
